The one-shot's plot revolves around traveling swordsman Shimotsuki Ryuma, who initially makes an agreement with a dragon to gain the trust of the locals by faking an attack by the monster and defeating it. The samurai, despite such cunning, turned out to be a kind-hearted person and, in the end, later saved the townspeople from a real threat.
The character Shimotsuki Ryuma appears in both the original manga and anime adaptation of One Piece as a zombie General Hogback and one of the antagonists of the Thriller Bark Saga.
