Arlan in HSR follows the Path of Destruction and wields the Lightning element, dealing damage to one or more targets depending on the ability used. He's partly similar in gameplay to the legendary Blade, but has a greater need for high attack power and crits than HP.
Thanks to the significant economy of skill points, he is a universal fighter who can show himself well in various situations on the battlefield. Despite the epic rarity, in the early stages of the game he can be effectively used as a primary or secondary damage dealer.

Hero's story

Arlan is the silent and somewhat reserved head of the security department of the Herta space station. The guy takes his duties very seriously and is ready to sacrifice himself for others at any moment. Many employees note that without him, the station would have long since fallen into disrepair. Even Herta does not interfere with his work, although he is not her follower.
Having completed his official duties ahead of schedule, he likes to play electronic frisbee with his dog Peppy, whom he once saved from certain death. The past of the head of the security department is rather vague. It is only known that his home world is The Blue, and he carefully hides his wounds under bandages and gloves. The guy values them more than anything in the world, because they allow him to keep his secrets.
The development of the hero's storyline can be found in the companion mission An Unexpected Turn of Events.
How to Get the Character
Arlan can be obtained in any banner available in the game, or purchased in the Pom-Pom store, if he is present in the assortment of general goods for Undying Embers.
Arlan's Rerun can be tracked through the current and constantly updated banner schedule.

How Arlan's skills work

The abilities of the head of the security department are aimed at inflicting Lightning damage to one or more opponents. He stands out from other characters in that he sacrifices his health instead of spending action points for his own strengthening. In order to better understand how the hero's skills work, we will explore them in more detail.
Active skills
Technique "Swift Harvest" || Explosion
Immediately attacks the enemy and after the battle begins, deals Lightning damage to all targets, amounting to 80%. of ATK.
Basic Attack "Lightning Rush" || Single Strike
Deals Lightning damage to the target enemy equal to 50-130% of ATK.
Skill "Shackle Breaker" || Single Strike
Spends 15%. of HP and deals Lightning damage to the selected target, amounting to 120-300% of attack power. If health is not enough, after using the skill, HP is reduced to 1.
Superpower "Frenzied Punishment" || Explosion
Spends 110 energy and deals Lightning damage to the selected target, amounting to 192-384% of ATK, as well as Lightning damage to adjacent targets equal to 96-192% of ATK.
Passive Skills
Talent "Pain and Anger" || Enhancement
Increases own damage for every percent of HP below max health, up to max. 36-90% additional damage.
Leveling Order
Superpower > Skill = Talent > Basic Attack
The unit deals most of his damage with his superpower, so it has priority. The Skill is another source of DPS, which is also actively used due to the fact that it does not spend skill points. The Talent affects the gain depending on the lost HP - no less important option. The Basic attack us needed exclusively to restore skill points.

Arlan's Best eidolons are E2,E4 and E6.
- The second eidolon: Allows you to remove 1 debuff from the character after using a skill or ult, making them more resilient and survivable.
- The fourth eidolon: restores health when receiving a fatal blow. To some extent, it allows the hero to play "more aggressively", since even after death he will immediately return to battle.
- The sixth eidolon: Further boosts the ultimate when health drops to half or lower. It also increases area damage, as it gains the same multipliers as a single hit.
How to play Arlan

The character follows the Path of Destruction, making him a versatile fighter. His playstyle is to consistently use a skill every turn to accumulate energy to activate an ultimate. There is no need to monitor the order of moves or think ahead, since he does not spend skill points.
The main difficulty lies in the mechanics health loss, which is why the hero is in dire need of support in the form of healers or shielders, who will help him not to fall in battle. In addition, if the head of the security department acts as a secondary DD, he can alternate basic attack and skill to bring the team to the "plus" in points.
Adhere to the following rules when building Arlan's rotation:
- Before the fight, use techniques on the Path of Harmony and/or Preservation supports to apply various buffs. Then, if the enemies are weak to the Lightning element, use the unit's technique "Swift Harvest».
- When it's your turn, use the skill "Shackle Breaker" to spend HP and attack the target, dealing more powerful damage. For every percent of health below the maximum value, the DPS will increase until the end of the battle.
- If Arlan is the main DD, activate the skill every turn. If he is a secondary DD, alternate the skill and the normal attack so that the team comes out ahead in skill points.
- As soon as enough energy is accumulated, use the ultimate "Frenzied Punishment» on lined up enemies that have a weakness to Lightning.
- When HP drops below 30% or the character defeats an enemy, he can heal by 20% of his maximum health pool. If you need to heal immediately, try to target mobs with the least amount of health.

Strengths and Weaknesses

After getting acquainted with the principle of operation of the abilities, traces and eidolons of the head of security of the space station, one can draw conclusions about his "pluses" and "minuses".
| Strengths | Weaknesses |
| Does not consume action points when using a skill. Such savings allow other allies to use skills more actively, and makes Arlan a universal combat unit. | In exchange for zero skill point expenditure and self-enhancement, he constantly sacrifices health. This negatively impacts survivability and requires the presence of Path of Abundance and Preservation supports. |
| An excellent DD for beginners, as he has a pleasant DPS in the early stages of the game. Subsequently, he can remain in the team as a kind of "generator" of skill points. Thanks to this, the team will always be in the black in points. | Demanding in terms of team composition. In order for the hero to feel comfortable in battle, he definitely needs a shielder and/or a healer. At the same time, supports will have to often spend saved skill points for healing or defense. |
| Capable of taking the position of a secondary damage dealer to inflict additional damage and effectively break the Lightning weakness of opponents through the constant use of abilities. | Needs a lot of investment to reach its full potential. However, even in this case, it is inferior to many epic ones, including free damage dealers, which may be less dependent on external factors. |
| The ult deals massive Lightning damage to the area (being a representative of the Path of Destruction - to one target and the enemies closest to it). At the same time, due to the fact that there is an opportunity to use the skill every turn, energy is quickly restored. | Although the traces boost the character a little, the mechanics of losing health still make him extremely vulnerable to fatal enemy blows. The problem is solved by having a 4th eidolon, but still only partially. |
| The only source of area damage is the ultimate, which also only affects nearby targets, not all enemies on the battlefield. | |
| The talent is a bit of a "bait" as it doesn't do as much damage as it might seem. The description says that the damage increases for every percent of HP below max HP, but the max buff can only be achieved at 1 HP. This is just a "nice bonus", so don't keep your HP too low on purpose. |
Best Arlan Builds in Honkai: Star Rail

The Head of Security is a Path of Destruction character, so he can play the role of a main or secondary damage dealer. His main feature is that he sacrifices part of his health to deal large damage to one or more targets. In general, Arlan's build in HSR includes a standard set of characteristics that almost any DPS hero needs:
- critical parameters;
- attack power (ATK);
- Speed.
Focusing on health is optional, because the boost depends on the % of max HP, not the value itself. That is, the character will receive the same buff with both 5000 HP and 10000 HP. However, a high HP indicator will make the unit less vulnerable one way or another and allow more healing from the trace, so the characteristic can be found in the sub-stats.
Recommended Stats
Priority stats in relics:
| Relic | Main characteristic |
| Head | HP (fixed) |
| Hands | Attack Power (fixed) |
| Body | Crit rate or dmg |
| Boots | Speed (priority) or attack power (optional) |
| Planar Sphere | Lightning Damage (priority) or attack power (optional) |
| Link Rope | ATK |
Additional characteristics:
- crits;
- ATK;
- speed;
- HP.
As for the optimal values of the stats considered, they should be as follows:
- ATK: 2 – 400 and more.
- CRIT Rate: 60 – 70% and more.
- CRIT DMG: 120 – 140% and more.
- Speed: 134 and more
- HP: 3+.
- DEF: 800 and more
Light Cone Rating

When choosing weapons, focus on the cones of the Paths of Destruction to have the passive effect active. Among the preferred stats and buffs, we highlight:
- ATK and crits;
- health restoration;
- increasing the damage inflicted.

![]() ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ HP 48-1058 ATK 24-529 DEF 18-396 | When the wielder attacks an enemy, the weapon increases its attack power by | Free weapon from the Simulated universe. It is well suited for boss battles due to the set of stacks that increase ATK up to four times. On the last imposition, the bonus increase can reach 64%, which is quite a lot. However, if the weapon is not awakened to the maximum, it is better to give preference to one of the following two options. |
![]() ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ HP 57-1270 ATK 26-582 DEF 15-330 | Crit. chance and HP are increased by 18-30%. When the owner is hit or spends their HP, the damage they deal increases by 24-40%. This effect is removed after the owner performs a attack. | In no way inferior to the above card:
|
![]() ⭐⭐⭐⭐ HP 48-1058 ATK 21-476 DEF 12-264 | Increases wearer's damage by | Signature Light Cone, which is also great and provides a high DPS boost. The buff will be stable due to the character's HP being almost always lower than that of his opponents. |
![]() ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ HP 52-1164 ATK 26-582 DEF 18-396 | Increases attack power by | Another optimal light cone. Increases DPS and restores HP after receiving damage or defeating an enemy, which will make the hero more survivable. Although the healing depends on the ATK indicator, this is not a problem, since the characteristic is leveled in any case. |
![]() ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ HP 48-1058 ATK 28-635 DEF 18-396 | Increases crit. chance by 18-30%. When the wearer uses a basic attack, he gains 1 level of "Dragon's Call" status for 2 turns. Each level of the Dragon's Call status increases the attack power by 18-30% and energy recovery rate by 6-10%. The Dragon's Call status can stack up to 2 times. | A good option for the character that provides increases to the main characteristics of the hero: it will increase the percentage of outgoing damage and allow you to use the ult more often due to the % increase in energy recovery speed. |
![]() ⭐⭐⭐⭐ HP 43-952 ATK 24-529 DEF 12-264 | Increases attack power by | A budget alternative to Something Irreplaceable. Similarly increases ATK and restores health, but to heal you need to defeat the enemy - for example, you can leave enemies with low HP to finish them off. It is also worth considering that healing depends on max. health. |
![]() ⭐⭐⭐⭐ HP 43-952 ATK 21-476 DEF 15-330 | Increases the wearer's attack power by 16-32%. After defeating the enemy, crit. owner's chance is increased by 12-24% for 3 turns. | A great "card" that, in addition to attack power, also increases crit. chance for 3 turns, which simplifies the balance of characteristics. However, as with the previous light cone, you will need to defeat the enemy to get the buff. |
![]() ⭐⭐⭐⭐ HP 48-1058 ATK 21-476 DEF 12-264 | Using a basic attack, skill, or super ability grants one level of Mischief. Each level increases attack power by | The Head of Security can easily stack up to 36% attack power (on R1) since his ability does not consume skill points and the ultimate charges fairly quickly. His basic attack is also used in rotation, albeit less frequently. |
![]() ⭐⭐⭐⭐ HP 48-1058 ATK 21-476 DEF 12-264 | Maximum health is increased by 12-24%. When the owner loses or restores HP, his critical damage increases by 18-36% for 2 turns. This effect can only occur once per turn. | The hero consumes health when using the skill and restores it himself first or, more often, with the help of Path of Abundance supports. As a result, the second part of the passive effect is stably activated and a bonus to the crit. bonus is given. As for the increase in HP, this will only affect survivability, since the skills are scaled by attack power. It is an acceptable option when there is a noticeable lack of crits. |
![]() ⭐⭐⭐ HP 38-846 ATK 16-370 DEF 9-198 | If the current HP of the owner is lower than 80%, then his crit. chance increases by 12-24%. | Light Cone, which will be extremely useful due to the increase in crit chance, since relics with a good crit rate are quite difficult to find in the early and mid game. At the same time, the hero often has below 80% HP during the fight, which makes it easy to get a buff. |
![]() ⭐⭐⭐ HP 38-846 ATK 16-370 DEF 9-198 | Increases the damage of the owner's basic attack and skill by | In addition, you can use this 3-star cone if you do not have the previous one. Since the hero uses the skill almost every turn, he will be able to use the boost on a permanent basis. |
What relics and ornaments are needed
For the relics, it is recommended to look for parameters that increase electro damage and ATK. In addition, you can give preference to artifacts with speed and Crits, if you can’t achieve the required values in the main and additional stats.

![]() | 2 parts: Increases crit. 8% chance. 4 parts: Increases skill and super ability damage by 20%. After using an ultimate, the damage of the next skill increases by 25%. | The character's skill and ultimate have fairly high multipliers, и these are the skills account for the larger part of his DPS. This set will allow you to deal even more damage during combat, а and also will increase the critical chance, making it easier to select and balance characteristics. |
![]() | 2 Piece: Increases Lightning bonus by 10%. 4 Piece: Increases attack power by 20% for 1 turn after using the skill. | Lightning bonus is essential for increasing overall DPS, as all of his active skills deal elemental damage. He is also able to constantly refresh the 4-part buff by using the skill every turn. |
![]() | 2 parts: increases max. Owner's HP by 12%. 4 parts: When the wearer receives an attack or when an ally consumes their HP, crit. Owner's chance is increased by 8% for 2 turns. This effect can stack up to 2 times. | The unit has a high base taunt value, which makes it a priority target for enemies during combat. Compared to other characters, it takes hits more often, therefore, it is quite capable of implementing 4 parts of the considered set. It is not to say that this set is “the best”, but it is definitely worth paying attention to - especially if you feel a drop in survivability. |
![]() ![]() | 2 Piece: Increases Lightning damage by 10%. 2 Piece: increases attack power by 12%. 2 parts: Damage dealt to enemies with Debuffs is increased by 12%. | The best option if you have 2 parts from the previous two sets with good stats, but you can’t build a complete set. |

|---|---|---|
![]() | 2 parts: increases crit. 8% chance. If crit. the owner's chance is 70% (or higher), the damage of his basic attack and skill is increased by 20%. | The hero mainly occupies the position of the main DPS character in the team: most of the time on the battlefield, he actively uses both the basic attack and the skill, thereby inflicting high damage. "Rutilant Arena" will increase the hero's final damage thanks to its effects: the main thing is to bring the critical chance indicator to 70%. |
![]() | 2 parts: Increases attack power by 12%. When the speed is 135/160 or more, the damage dealt by the character increases by 12%/18%. | It is slightly inferior (by about 3%) to the previous ornaments due to useful bonuses in the form of increased ATK and total damage dealt. However, taking into account the requirements of the passive effect, the set can only be implemented if the character's speed is at least 135 units. |
![]() | 2 parts: Increases attack power (ATK) by 12%. When the speed reaches 120 units or more, additionally +12% to attack power. | ATK is an important stat that directly affects a character's damage, as all skills scale from this stat. However, to get the maximum bonus, you'll need to collect at least 120 speed, which isn't really a problem with speed boots. |
![]() | 2 parts: Increases crit chance by 8%. When crit chance reaches 50% or higher, superpower damage and attack bonus are increased by 15%. | An excellent choice among planar ornaments due to the increase in crit chance, which will simplify the selection of stats. The set also increases the damage of the ultimate - one of the hero's key skills. It is worth considering that you must have at least 50% crit rate for the buff to the ult to work. |
Team Guide for Arlan in HSR
In a team, Arlan plays the role of a secondary damage dealer or the core of the group. In the second case, the hero is much more dependent on support, especially healers and shielders, as he constantly loses health when using the skill. As for the sub-DD role, the unit becomes less demanding for team build, as there will be another DPS character available.
Which characters are suitable?
The following heroes can be allies of the head of security:
| Character | Damage Path and Type | Features |

![]() | ![]() ![]() | A good character for the role of the main DPS hero, if the head of the security department is a secondary damage dealer. Plays from the consumption of skill points, so it will "combine" well with the unit. |
![]() | ![]() ![]() | Like the Imbibitor, consumes a lot of skill points, so it is always happy with secondary damage control without the need to use a resource. Independently inflicts fire vulnerability on opponents and perfectly destroys the enemy's stamina bar. |

![]() | ![]() ![]() | Despite the fact that the character is mainly focused on supporting heroes with summons, he distributes many useful and versatile buffs. In particular, Sunday increases damage and crit. indicators, advances the action and restores energy. |
![]() | ![]() ![]() | A representative of the highest tier of Harmony, whose skills are aimed at increasing outgoing damage and critical rate. When using the ultimate, advances actions of all allies by 100%. |
![]() | ![]() ![]() | A versatile support heroine with bonuses that directly increase damage dealt to enemies. At the same time, she herself partially functions as a secondary DPS character. Combines well with those who actively hit multiple targets and often activate the ultimate. |
![]() | ![]() ![]() | Using an ultimate increases the speed of all team members. Also accumulates charges, which subsequently give a buff to attack power. |
![]() | ![]() ![]() | Can restore energy to one of the allies with the ult, and apply the Blessing status with the skill. A blow from an ally with this status deals additional Lightning damage. |
![]() | ![]() ![]() | A multifunctional support that increases crits and ATK. However, to consistently maintain all the buffs on the battlefield, you will need to take into account the order of turns. |
![]() | ![]() ![]() | A representative of Harmony, she buffs speed and single-target DPS. Thanks to her talent and unique status, Burden can restore skill points, which saves some teams from a constant shortage of this resource. |
![]() | ![]() ![]() | Provides increased damage, speed, break efficiency, and resistance break of all elemental types. Arlan is often a sub-DD, which combines well with the mechanics of Ruan Mei, which works best in dual-DPS builds. |
![]() | ![]() ![]() | The main advantage of Sparkle is not only the increase in critical value, but also the overall damage output. The Masked Fool directly affects the increase in the number of skill points used during combat, and also contributes to their accelerated recovery. |

![]() | ![]() ![]() | Applies the status "Ashen Roast", which is considered Burn. Enemies affected by "Ashen Roast" receive increased damage. The super ability, in turn, deals a high level of damage, and also applies a third-party debuff that increases the ultimates clearing through enemies. |

Best team samples
With the characters considered, the following teams can be formed:
| Character 1 | Character 2 | Character 3 | Character 4 | Features |
|---|---|---|---|---|
![]() | ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ![]() | ![]() ![]() | Bronya or Sparkle can provide all the necessary bonuses on their own. They can also constantly use a skill, moving the action forward (or a healer), since the head of security himself does not spend skill points. If these supports are not available, Asta or another Harmony character will do. Hanya/Tingyun act as an additional source of buffs to provide even more different buffs. Trailblazer (Fire) protects from receiving lethal damage. However, in case of problems, the hero is replaced by Aventurine. |
![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | A team in which Silver Wolf makes enemies vulnerable to Lightning. Arlan is the main DD. Silver Wolf additionally lowers enemy stats. Fu Xuan tanks, heals, increases HP and crit chance. Bailu is a backup in the form of healing. |
![]() | ![]() ![]() | ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ![]() | A group with Path of Nihility representatives to weaken enemy targets and Path of Harmony to buff allies. All-round support is provided by various bonuses and debuffs, which increases the damage of all team members. However, the buffs are primarily placed on the head of the security department if the ability is used on one ally. |
![]() | ![]() | ![]() ![]() | ![]() ![]() | Since the unit specializes more in destroying single targets, you can put an AoE damage dealer in the team, for example, SAM or Rappa. Lingsha and Gallagher also deal damage to the area with their ult and break vulnerability well, so for an overall boost you can use Pela or the Imaginary Trailblazer in the group. |
![]() ![]() | ![]() | ![]() ![]() | ![]() | Team with Feixiao/Dr. Ratio. Since they play from bonus attacks, it is optimal to supplement the team with Topaz or Robin, which offer buffs for the corresponding type. At the same time, the head of security constantly deals additional damage without consuming skill points, which will allow Feixiao to accumulate a charges of "Flying Aureus". |
![]() | ![]() | ![]() ![]() | ![]() | Jingliu is the main Ice DPS. The Space Station Section Chief is the secondary DPS. This build has a lot of "free" skill points, so Path of Harmony characters will always be able to use their skills as their buffs wear off. |
![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() | ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ![]() | Jing Yuan/Imbibitor Lunae/Argenti is a powerful damage dealer with high AoE. Sunday/Sparkle provide powerful buffs. However, instead of them, you can use Welt, who slows enemies and applies the Imprisonment status to them, and also deals imaginary damage in the area with an ultimate. Natasha/Gallagher heals. |
![]() ![]() | ![]() | ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ![]() | A fully protected team, which consists of tanking characters in the person of Clara or Yunli, as well as strong representatives of the Path of Preservation or Abundance. In such a build, the hero will be able to absorb much more incoming damage, without fear of completely losing health and being defeated by enemy attacks. |
Conclusion

Arlan can deal a decent amount of Lightning damage while being a primary or secondary DPS. The key feature of the hero is that he sacrifices health for DPS, which literally forces you to build a team around him, especially if he is the only source of DPS in the group.
The Head of Security is a comfortable hero to start the game with, and later on, a loyal partner who will help in inflicting additional damage, especially since he does not spend skill points. Although the unit is inferior to other damage dealers and requires much greater investment to open up to the maximum, it is quite possible to use it if you like this kind of gameplay. Moreover, with a properly selected team and equipment, he is capable of clearing almost any available content.
We hope that thanks to our Honkai: Star Rail guide you were able to create the best build for Arlan. Feel free to ask questions in comments, so that the author or other players can help you.
