Subnautica 2 Base: How to Build and Best Locations

Best spots for the start and mid game.

The interior of the base with a garage for the bathyscaphe

The base is a shelter, a warehouse and a workshop all at once. Subnautics 2Here you can place respawn points and access to the NoA interface, as well as equipment, workbenches, and a garage for underwater vehicles. The supplies in the escape pod will suffice for now, but the storage there is limited and the fabricator is damaged. Therefore, one of the initial tasks is setting up an underwater workstation.

How to build a base

To build your first shelter, you only need to gather scrap metal and craft a construction tool. Using these resources, you can build a simple section of a single corridor powered by a pair of solar panels directly under the escape pod. It will accommodate a functioning fabricator and several storage cells.

The plot further leads to exploration of the northern zones, and advanced tools require more energy and space. These factors force the search for a place to relocate and build an advanced version of the base.

Find the Builder's fragments

Description of the Builder in the database

Once you've crafted a scanner and a multi-tool, go looking for blueprints for new equipment. The first thing you'll need is a Builder.

View of the Arrival Center from the escape pod

Check out the Arrival Center, which is 80 meters from the escape pod. Turn southeast (150 meters) and you'll notice some ruins. You can scan two broken devices there to obtain the completed blueprint.

The first device is in an open container at the entrance, and for the second, go down into the cave under the building through the hole in the floor. You'll need:

  • titanium ×2;
  • glass ×1;
  • simple battery ×1;
  • copper wire ×1.

Place rooms and entrances

By default, only cylindrical corridors are available from construction bays. To craft one section, prepare 2x Titanium.

Be sure to build a hatch so you can swim freely into the room. To install it, you'll need:

  • titanium ×1;
  • quartz ×1.

For increased comfort, it's best to immediately add spacious square compartments to the structure. To unlock the template for this element, head to the Old Residential Base. The entrance to the facility is located approximately 400 meters directly north of the starting point.

Swim into the next room after the entrance and turn 240° down the corridor. At the end, you'll find a ladder that leads to an unflooded section. Enter the control room with the NoA terminal and grab the data card from the corner shelf.

In these ruins you can also get two fragments sound resonator.

Connect the electricity

Energy is required to operate the devices and generate oxygen. Solar panels provide baseline electricity generation, and each module requires:

  • titanium ×1;
  • quartz ×2.

To increase energy efficiency, harness the power of underwater currents. To do this, position your shelter near them and place a hydroelectric turbine within the current.

You can find fragments for it behind Camp No. 1:

  • From the capsule, maintain a 30° heading, travel 265 meters in this direction, and then float above the station's ruined corridors. Beyond them is a current, near which the first fragment lies on a plateau.
  • From the previous point, turn west and follow the flow against its direction. This path will lead to the platform with the second turbine.

Place a base beacon

To always know the way to your shelter, build a beacon inside or outside. Once placed, this device can be selected in the "Marks" section of the PDA, and it will be pinned to your visor.

Place the equipment

When building a shelter, keep in mind that it will need sufficient space for equipment. Here's what to install first:

  • The manufacturer is the same as in the escape pod, but with expanded functionality.
  • Cabinets - it is advisable to allocate an entire section and build as many of them as possible.
  • The Refiner is the second most important element after the Fabricator, and is primarily used to create ingots.
  • The Biolab will allow you to install biomods, which serve as perks to make the game easier.
  • The Tadpole Docking Shaft and Vehicle Fabricator is a complex that allows you to craft and store a bathyscaphe. It takes up a lot of space, so be sure to prepare a spacious compartment for it in advance.

Best places to build a base

A good base is, first and foremost, about sound logistics. When choosing a location, consider three main criteria: nearby resources, access to power sources, and terrain.

Plateau in the northwest

The location is located 200-250 meters north of the rescue capsule and meets all the criteria. There's a flat patch of land, next to which a fast-flowing current runs through a gorge. To the west, beneath the plateau, there's an entrance to a cave full of Silver, copper and titanium.

At the "Cemetery" in the hot biome

After opening adaptations "Resistance to overheating" Travel 500 meters east of the starting point, where the ruins are surrounded by tubular formations with geothermal vents. Build a camp on the biome boundary north of the wreckage. There are no currents here, but power can be generated using thermal power plants. You'll find vast amounts of lithium, sulfur, and gold nearby.

At the abandoned complex behind the observatory

1300 meters east of the capsule, there's an abandoned station with a rooftop garden. Inside, there's a respawn point and a working fabricator. The power source is a stream in the cave beneath the building.

How to remove a building and return its resources

To dismantle a structure, equip the Builder and switch it to dismantle mode ("Q"). Aim at the deployed structure and hold "LMB" to dismantle it. All resources expended will be returned to your inventory. This feature allows you to quickly dismantle an old structure and transfer the resources to build a new base.
