Studio ECLYPSE presented the first trailer for Berserk: Black Swordsman and announced the release date - summer 2025. This project is a fan adaptation of the Black Swordsman arc, and according to the creators, it will be carried out exclusively in 2D and uncensored, and the animation will also include several previously unfilmed stories from the manga.
Previously, this arc was included in the first episode of the 1997 series, but many moments and a number of characters were cut out. The 2016 anime later returned to Black Swordsman and added a few things to the beginning of the season, most notably Colette's episode, but many facts were changed.
Kentaro Miura's manga received a film adaptation from OLM, Studio 4°C, Millepensee and GEMBA, but each time fans of the original were dissatisfied with something, and the studios often distorted a number of important facts or were hacky in terms of graphics. The source material is considered one of the best manga of all time and has incredibly detailed art that requires incredible effort and resources from the animators and crew.
The audience has currently highly appreciated the fan-made trailer, which in terms of art and atmosphere is much closer to the manga and many times better than professional adaptations. The Black Swordsman arc in the original comics involves Guts freeing a pixie elf named Puck and his battle with the apostles Snake Baron and Count during his quest for the Hand of God. In the presented video you can see Griffith in the form of Femto, a very emotional moment with Casca and the battle of the protagonist with the apostle.
