On May 16, the Overwatch 2 Dev Update streamed on the official PlayOverwatch channel, during which the developers of the game shared more details about their plans for 2023.
In addition to the announcements of events, cinematics and new heroes, there was bad news: Blizzard canceled the PvE mode for Overwatch 2. Recall that this feature of the game was presented as a significant part of the gameplay and it was this mode that consoled the fans of the first part.
Initially, when the trailer for the second part was just released, Blizzard promised to release a full-scale cooperative PvE mode, for which it is worth creating a sequel: familiar maps, many enemies, hero talents and much more. This mode was supposed to come out some time after the release of the sequel.
On the broadcast, they published Overwatch 2 season XNUMX roadmap, where instead of a full-fledged PvE mode, there is only information about "story missions". These missions are likely to be similar to the PvE content from the first part: Uprising, Retribution, and Rising Storm, which were available during the events.
Blizzard's Official Response to Overwatch 2's PvE Removal Makes It Clear the Mode's Rejection is Justified"inability to cope with the planned volume of work". According to the developers, the company is unable to release a full-fledged PvE mode without compromising the main content. Blizzard admits that the situation is dire indeed, but the cancellation of the plans is necessary to "keep the game healthy."
