Third free content update, featuring Sid Meier's Pirates-inspired content and balance changes.
Civilization 6 by Sid Meier continues to expand its mundane scope with the addition of nations such as Byzantium and Gaul to New Frontier Pass last month. This update, as part of the paid DLC pass, also included a new map script and Tragic Ages game mode. However, the developer is also releasing a third free content update for players this month, with a focus on pirates.
Unlike the inclusion of more traditional civilizations such as Byzantium, Pirates scenario based in part on Sid Meier's Pirates released in 1987 and remastered in 2004, will completely change the way players play the game. In a video detailing this big October update, Associate Producer Roni Kahana said the scenario will feature up to four players trying to survive against other pirates and fleets from countries like the UK and Spain on new maps.
Available four factions of pirates with unique skills to choose from; Dread Pirate, Privateer, Swashbuckler or Hoarder. But all of them will not be able to build settlements, as in the normal rounds of Civilization 6.
Rather, new mechanics were created, including some direct tie-ins to Sid Meier's Pirates, such as collecting and equipping relics.
Various balance updates and patches are also being applied, some based on player feedback. For example, AI leaders will be more proactive in rebuilding their defensive structures and less likely to build religious structures if religion is not an explicit part of their civilization.
Aside from the October update, Civilization 6 fans still have a lot to look forward to in the coming months. New Frontier package promises a total of six expansions, and Byzantium and Gaul will become part of the third wave. According to the game's website, further updates are planned. until at least March 2021, which will feature a total of three new civilizations, several new game modes, and other content such as the Wonders of the World.
