In the "non-starvation" life in the subway is much more difficult than in the upper world. Most of the problems begin during the Nightmare cycle, when the whole world around literally goes crazy.
Survival games, in the spirit valheim and Raft are gaining popularity, and after that new players come to the old, proven over the years, projects of the genre. Coming out in 2013, Do not starve (or simply "Unhungry", as fans call the game) is still one of the best representatives of the genre. Combination hunger mechanics and permanent death threats turn each passage of the game into a real fight for life, making it unique.
An important and especially difficult moment of the game is exploration of caves and ruins. The main snag here is in the Nightmare Cycle - the period when the world around changes and horrors attack the player. Although at first the possibility of surviving in the nightmare that is happening around seems scanty - it's quite real. The main thing is to choose the right strategy.
Don't Forget the Nightmare Cycle Phases
The nightmare cycle is divided into 4 phases:
- Calm phase: about 4-5 minutes.
- Warning phase: 1 - 1,5 minutes.
- Nightmare phase: 2,5 - 3 minutes.
- End phase (dawn phase): 15 – 45 seconds.
All phases can be recognized by certain visual and audio signals. For example, during the first 2 phases Runic turf changes color changes its color to gray, cracks, upon the onset of the nightmare phase, begin to glow red.
The sounds get louder from phase to phase, peaking during the Nightmare phase and softening during the final phase of the Nightmare Cycle.
Watch out for the Thulecite Medallion
Thulecite Medallion - another faithful assistant to the player in tracking phases. The medallion is crafted near the Pseudo-Science Station with 2 Thulecite and 2 Dread Fuel.
With the Nightmare Cycle, the medallion helps to tame its glow. In the calm phase, the medallion is brown, in the warning phase it begins to play with shades of red and finally turns red with the advent of the nightmare phase. Change depending on the phases and the replica of the characters exploring the item.
Beware the Nightmare Lights
Logical solution: To avoid horror issues during the Nightmare Phase, stay away from Nightmare Fires and Cave Cracks. After all, it is shadow creatures respawn near them and being near the player can be in a very unpleasant trap.
Check the map
In-game map - a simple and convenient way to avoid stumbling upon cracks and nightmarish fires. Fortunately, the latter are displayed on it, which is very useful when exploring ruins and caves.
Still won't hurt watch out for cave monkeys. During the Nightmare cycle, harmless thieves become dangerous and attack the player.
Bide your time
If the player is well versed in the phases of the Nightmare Cycle, then the ideal option would be to simply leave the caves before the start of the nightmare phase and not return there until the next calm phase.
By the way, the dawn phase is also not the best time for caves. The fact that the peak of the attack is over does not mean at all that the character will not be attacked.
Use a bush hat or ulipaha shell
Equipment can also help you survive the Nightmare Cycle, primarily - bush hat go ulipakha shell. They can be used to hide from horrors.
True, the player may be given some of character animations. Be prepared that the disguise will fall and you still have to join the battle.
Destroy monkey totems
As we have already mentioned, cave monkeys can turn into nightmare monkeys. And the crowds of the latter represent a real danger for the player.
Therefore, in order to eliminate the threat, it is worthwhile in advance destroy all monkey totemsthat get in the way. This will prevent the cave monkeys from appearing, which means they will not turn into their nightmarish counterpart.
fight
If the character is one of those who are good at combat, then the attempt to fight back the horrors may be successful. True, in any case, to remain one on one with more than a serious opponent - not the best idea.
Be tactical. An elephant or a fear beak, for example, you can lure away from the treasure and sort it out one by one.
Stay vigilant when mining ancient statues
ancient statues - A source of thulecite and fuel of terror, one of the main reasons players venture into ruin exploration.
But you shouldn't get carried away. Resources are not worth a character's life. Follow the phases and at the slightest suspicion - do your feet forgetting about the statues.
Don't relax!
During final phase Of the Nightmare Cycle, it's easy to lose your guard, thinking that the worst is behind you.
Certainly not! The horrors keep coming during this phase, although all major indicators show that the peak of the threat has passed. Be on guard until the calm phase.
