Elden Ring was first announced at E3 two years ago, and the wait for gameplay is finally over. Since E3 2019, every new gaming event, trade show, or presentation brings new expectations and hype to the Elden Ring fan base, only to have those hopes dashed. But not at this time.
Gameplay footage showcases plenty of combat and magic, with sword fights, dragon encounters, and one character pierced by a long blade. In the trailer shown on Game Summer Fest also confirmed Elden Ring release date - January 21, 2022.
Working on the project himself Hidetaka Miyazaki, and the game takes on the tone and game mechanics of the series Dark Soulsbut in a much more open environment. This means that players will be able to explore different locations on foot or on horseback, and will also have a lot more space to explore the dark and gothic world. We saw temples, libraries, castles, meadows and churches.
The game is the result collaboration between Miyazaki and fantasy writer George R. Martinbest known for Game of Thrones. It was originally announced for PC, Ps4 and Xbox One, but it was recently announced that the game will also be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Development on the game began in 2017, but since 2019 there have been several false rumors about an upcoming trailer or gameplay footage, as well as several leaks purporting to be related to an upcoming trailer. Ryan Reynolds even teased Elden Ring during his Summer Game Fest performance. Now that the official trailer has been released, the appetites of Elden Ring fans may have been satisfied, if only for a little while.
