Farthest Frontier is a city-building strategy in which you need to develop your settlement, defend yourself from invaders and avoid the spread of dangerous diseases. It contains a lot of deeply developed mechanics, in which you can get confused out of habit. To avoid annoying mistakes at the initial stages of the passage, we advise you to familiarize yourself with the guide on Farthest Frontier, which contains the basics of the game and tips for beginners.
What do you need to know before playing?
By default in Farthest Frontier There are three difficulty levels available: Pathfinder, Pathfinder и conqueror. Players familiar with the genre are advised to choose the second one, and those who have never run city-building simulators before, the first one.
In the same menu, you can select one of five types of relief: arid highlands, alpine valleys, low-lying lakes, plains or random, which will combine the features of all previous types. This setting affects the amount of resources on the map, as well as the fertility of the soil. During the first playthrough, it is recommended to choose lowland lakes - the most optimal landscape for getting to know all the gameplay mechanics.
Now it remains only to come up with a name for the settlement, choose the size of the map (preferably medium) and decide whether to put a tick in the line "Peaceful regime". In it, raiders and enemy armies do not attack the village, and wolves and bears do not live in the forests.
Level 1 Settlement Development
The first step is to place the building City center - the only building in the game, the location of which cannot be changed in the future. It also serves as a fortress where, in the event of an attack, the inhabitants can take up positions and shoot enemies with a bow. It is advisable to consider the location in advance city center - place the building on a flat surface about 20 squares from the water. Additionally pressing the key F, you can check the fertility of the soil in the area - this factor is important for the construction of farms. If a suitable place was not found, you can start the game again.
Dividing the settlement into sectors
Now we need to decide what the settlement will look like. It can be anything, but for convenience it is recommended to break it into four sectors, as shown in the screenshot:
- Yellow commercial sector, where there are storage rooms and various workshops (for example, a shoemaker's house and a barn with baskets);
- Blue residential sector, where ordinary houses and buildings are located - a school, a doctor's house;
- Green agricultural sectorgiven over to gardens and farms;
- Finally, red industrial sector, where it is desirable to collect all the buildings that negatively affect the attractiveness of the city - for example, a compost yard. They should be kept as far away from residential buildings.
In order to further raise the level of the settlement from 1 to 3, it is desirable to concentrate in the residential sector all buildings that increase level of attractiveness of the city - markets, healers' houses, schools, altars, parks, gardens, etc.
Construction of the first buildings
After choosing a location for city center villagers will automatically clear rocks and trees around it. At this stage, you can give them the task of ennobling the desired area (click H and select the cells with trees and stones to be removed). While they are running, click Nto build a dirt road near city center. Remember that it is desirable to place it in the upper right corner industrial sector.
Now it's time to move on to the construction of the residential sector. Create a 6x6 block next to city centeras shown above. Build a few temporary shelters or homes around the edges, and also necessarily set well (this may require additional stones).
Next put wood splitter right next door to city center. As soon as the building is built, one of the residents will automatically start making firewood there.
Fishermen and gatherers
So, the first houses, a source of drinking water, as well as a source of firewood have already appeared in the settlement. It remains only to take care of the extraction of food in the early stages. To do this, stretch the road to the lake and build two fishing huts и two houses for pickers. Then click on each of them and set the territories in which the inhabitants will collect berries with herbs and fish. When choosing a fishing spot, try to cover as many blue dots as possible to get the maximum catch.
Warehouse and sawmill
At this stage, it is necessary to build buildings in which it will be possible to store excess food. storage cart, available by default, has too modest capacity, so it is advised first of all build a warehouse for building materials, and then pantry с cellar for products. When everything is ready, click on cart and uncheck all items on the list so that in the future all food is stored in special rooms. In parallel with this, send the inhabitants to cut down trees and break stones near the settlement.
Next you need to build sawmill, thanks to which you will have access to the boards needed to create more advanced buildings. Don't forget to extend dirt roads. After building, click on sawmill and disable the extra slot so that only one settler works in it.
agricultural fields
By this point, the game will most likely be in its second year. The current residents should already have enough food, but it's time to expand the settlement and prepare for the arrival of new people. In the agricultural sector build a 5x5 square field 1 square away from the roads. This empty line is needed for the fence, otherwise the deer living nearby will eat the entire crop.
Send at least five villagers to build the field, since this is the most important task at this stage, and it should ideally be completed before winter (since the settlers cannot work in the fields in cold weather). If you do not have time, then return to the construction in the spring.
Cemetery and compost yard
Don't forget also build a cemetery in the far corner of the village. This will prevent the spread of diseases in the event that one of the settlers dies. Without this building, the corpses will simply lie on the ground, and for some reason the inhabitants refuse to bury them anywhere.
While the field is being built, you can build a compost yard. Its recommended put in the industrial sector - where it will not adversely affect the attractiveness of houses in a residential area. In the screenshot, you can see an unsuccessful placement point (left) and an ideal one (right). Waste (excrement) will be stored here, which can later be used as fertilizer. It will also help to avoid the spread of various diseases.
Settlement expansion
After field и compost yard will be ready, it's time to start attracting new settlers. For this you need expand residential sector so that the area of the central part is 6x8 blocks, and the area of the sector on the right is 6x6. It is in it that you need to build additional houses where new settlers will live.
It is advisable to immediately define them as workers, so that they cut down trees, build new buildings and drag certain resources around the city. As soon as the population in the town increases, it is recommended to build a field where, instead of a turnip, any other of the available products will be grown.
At this stage, it is recommended to expand residential sector as shown above. Each square should contain four houses, and in wide sectors leave an empty space in the middle, which can later be used for decorations when the city is pumped to level 3. Now, as needed, build houses in this sector if the number of settlers grows.
Hunting hut and smokehouse
It's time to move on to the hunt. Select a couple of inhabitants with a mouse movement and send them to explore the territories around the settlement. Sooner or later they will find habitats for deer and wild boars (first two icons on the left) and wolf lairs (right) - it is better to stay away from the latter.
There must be at least two hunters so that they can fight off a sudden attack by wolves or bears. As soon as you find a deer or wild boar habitat, build a dirt road to this point and build near it hunting hut. As with gatherers and fishermen, give your charges different areas to hunt.
In the town itself build a smokehouse - in this building, the meat will undergo special processing, which will increase its shelf life. If by this time the settlement already has two fishing and hunting lodges, one smokehouses will be more than enough.
At this stage of the game, you can build two more fields for growing food to avoid the risk of starvation. It is advised to grow beans and clover on them, and once a year it is advisable to put them in order and clean them of weeds.
The tannery and houses of the blacksmith, basket-maker and shoemaker
Now it is recommended to build four buildings at once:
- Tannery, in which warm fur coats will be made from the skins of caught animals. It must be placed in industrial sector as far as possible from residential buildings.
- shoemaker's house, where shoes will be produced, thanks to which the settlers will be less likely to suffer from tetanus. This and the next two buildings can be placed in commercial sector.
- Blacksmith's house, where arrows and bows for hunters and ordinary residents will be made from logs.
- basket maker's house, the owner of which will create baskets from willow branches, so that the settlers will be able to carry more things and work more productively.
Upgrading a settlement to level 2
In order to upgrade a settlement to level 2, you must meet the following conditions:
- Have at least 8 temporary shelters or houses.
- Build 1 Market.
- Have a population of 30 or more.
- Have 40 planks and 25 stones in stock.
If done, click on City center and click on the button "Update". For some time, the settlers will rebuild this building, and when they are completed, access to various buildings of the 2nd level will open.
Trading post and soap factory
One of them is trading post, which is best placed next to the warehouse in commercial sector. In this building, you can exchange excess resources for gold, as well as buy goods necessary for the development of the settlement. To sell products, you must first drag them to trading post. Purchased items also need to be transferred to the warehouse in order to be able to use them.
At this stage, only one building remains to be built - soap factory. In it, soap will be made from animal fat and herbs (obtained thanks to hunters and gatherers). It will help to avoid the spread of various diseases, so it is important to ensure that each of the settlers has soap.
Raider protection
By this time, about 40 inhabitants already live in the village, the production of everything necessary has been established, and the cellar is packed to capacity with food (by the way, it would be nice to build a second cellar). Of course, such a prosperous settlement will begin to attract the attention of raiders. You can protect yourself from them in the following ways:
- As soon as you notice them, immediately pause the game.
- Click on City center and select line "Gather the inhabitants into a garrison".
- Restart the game and enjoy the massacre of the raiders.
In the future, it is recommended to build fences or even walls around your town, as well as install several observation towers. However, at the current stage of the game, it is enough to simply respond to alarms in time to minimize the damage from attacks.

How to win this game? What is the goal of ending the game? I’ve developed to the maximum and that’s it, I’ve been playing for a week, but I want a winning game over.
I have empty houses for new residents. But, for some reason, these new residents do not settle in them, and die of cold when winter comes. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
wood splitter is necessary, + collecting wood
I can't figure out how to sell goods to a merchant. Tell me how to do it.
He does not buy all the goods, but only the top ones. There, green arrows will also indicate which goods are bought (arrow to the left), which are sold (arrow to the right) and bought and sold at the same time (arrow and right and left)
Thanks for the guide!
Helped a lot with the game.
I look forward to continuing 🙂
