God of War: where is the save folder?

God of War  on PC is a great port of the console action-adventure game, which was released on January 14, 2022. Players of the computer version have the ability to transfer game progress save files to other devices, or transfer them to users on the network. However, it remains where God of War saves are stored on Windows and Linux.

The article shows the exact paths to the saves folder, and also describes how game progress is recorded when launched through Steam and the Epic Games Store.

How to save in God of War

In the case of the computer version of God of War, everything is simple. Press ESC and select "Save" to place a progress record in one of the slots.

Where are God of War saves stored on PC?

In the case of the Windows and Linux versions of the game, there can be two main ways to save progress: directly on the PC, or in the cloud of the game market (Steam, EGS). It is impossible to export such a file from the platform, but it is quite easy to find it on the device itself.

Windows

God of War saves on Windows are in the folder:

• %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\God of War\
• C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\God of War\

Instead of "USERPROFILE" and "username" you need to enter the name of the active account. Also, in most Russian assemblies of Windows, the Saved Games folder has a name that is relevant for localization - “Saved Games”. With these changes, the suggested folder paths look like this:

• %Shelbourne%\Saved Games\God of War\
• C:\Users\Shelbourne\Saved Games\God of War\

The username itself in Windows can be found by opening the Start menu. The account name will be written next to the user's mini-avatar (see screenshot).

Linux

On Linux-based systems, the game is installed via Steam, since the EGS launcher was not developed for them. Path to God of War save folder on Linux:

• [Steam folder] / steamapps / compatdata / 1593500 / pfx /
• ~/.steam/steam/userdata/[user id]/1593500

In the first case, you need to find the STEAM Play Proton client directory manually. The second option is designed to open through the Terminal.

How God of War cloud saves work on PC

This type of saving game progress is relevant only for owners of the paid version of the game from Steam or EGS. Any automatic save or placement of progress in one of the slots will be duplicated on the game market server. This means that if you reinstall Windows or use another device, the user will be able to continue the game without saving any files.
