Hook in HSR is the self-proclaimed boss of the "Moles" adventurer squad in Belobog's Underworld. As a playable character, the girl follows the Path of Destruction and wields the Fire element. She has simple gameplay, allowing you to consistently deal damage to multiple targets, but demonstrates the best results against a single opponent.
The effectiveness against elite enemies is also revealed thanks to the built-in Burn mechanic, which is a damage-over-time effect that allows you to attack your opponent at the beginning of each turn. The heroine is an optimal combat unit for beginners to clear the available content, including difficult boss battles in the story or while farming.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Consider all the "pros" and "cons" that you may encounter when playing the boss of the "Moles".
| Strengths | Weaknesses |
| High instant DPS single target makes Hook an excellent damage dealer (both primary and secondary). Especially if there is not enough fire element to break the corresponding vulnerability. | Although the skill's "explosion" hits several opponents, most of its damage is focused on single targets. Specifically, until the 4th Eidolon is obtained, Burn only affects one enemy. |
| Strikes the opponents with the Burn, which she can maintain on a permanent basis. This allows her to deal periodic damage, helping her team outside of the battlefield. | To unlock her full potential, additional investments required: from legendary relics and weapons to full awakening. But even then, she is inferior to many heroes in the later stages. |
| Has an average energy cost ult (120). At the same time, she restores energy with the talent and the third trace "Playing With Fire", gaining enough energy to activate an ultimate almost every turn. | Takes time to build up power, that the ability to cause damage in modes where time is of the essence, such as in Forgotten Hall. |
| Convenient character for beginners due to simple but effective mechanics. Exaltation materials and the best sets of relics can also be comfortably farmed from the very start of the game. |
Best Hook Builds in Honkai: Star Rail

The heroine is a universal DPS character and has a DoT mechanic, applying the Burn status to one enemy (or several targets if there is the 4th eidolon). In addition, thanks to the talent "Ha! Oil to the Flames!" damage against such targets increases, and the character restores energy.
Thus, all damage of the Mole leader depends on attack power and fire bonus, accordingly, Hook build in HSR is primarily based on these characteristics. As for any damage dealer, critical parameters(crit dmg, crit rate) and speed are no less important.

| Planar Sphere | Fire dmg bonus |
| Link Rope | ATK |
Additional characteristics:
- Critical parameters.

Optimal stat values:

- ATK – 1900 and more.
- Speed – 120 and more.
- Break effect - up to 50%.
Light Cone Rating
The most optimal Path of Destruction weapon for the Mole Team Leader to maximize her combat potential:
| Name | Description | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
![]() ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ HP 48-1058 ATK 24-529 DEF 18-396 | When the wielder attacks, the weapon increases its attack power by | One of the best light cones, as it increases ATK to 64% in total (at R5). The only thing is that to get the maximum bonus, you need to attack enemies several times, and to increase damage, you need to break through vulnerability. Despite this, the weapon remains quite strong, as the first condition is fulfilled automatically during combat. |
![]() ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ HP 52-1164 ATK 26-582 DEF 18-396 | Increases attack power by | A great light cone that combines offensive and defensive effects. The buff is passive, but the second part requires defeating an enemy or getting hit. This can be helped by using March 7's shield or having a tank nearby if the enemy has an AoE. |
![]() ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ HP 48-1058 ATK 28-635 DEF 18-396 | Increases the owner's crit. chance by 18-30%. When the bearer uses a basic attack, he gains 1 lvl. Dragon's Call status for 2 turns. Each status level of Dragon's Call increases the wearer's attack power by 18-30% and energy recovery rate by 6-10%. The Dragon's Call status can stack up to 2 times. | The main problem with the Light Cone is the need to maintain Dragon's Call, which is inconvenient for a heroine who mainly plays from her ultimate and skill. One way or another, the effects are quite strong and provide increases to the main stats - crit chance, ATK and energy recovery. |
![]() ⭐⭐⭐⭐ HP 43-952 ATK 21-476 DEF 15-330 | Increases ATK by 10-20%, also increases damage dealt to Burn and Bleed enemies by 16-32%. This effect also applies to damage over time. | The best 4-star option, and completely free. Increases ATK, and most importantly, gives a bonus to damage if enemies have the "Burn" status, which matches the mechanics of the character. In addition, she herself deals high damage to burning targets. |
![]() ⭐⭐⭐⭐ HP 48-1058 ATK 21-476 DEF 12-264 | Increases wearer's damage by | Although the second half of the effect cannot be activated all the time, in battles against enemies with higher health (such as bosses or elite mobs), this light cone is just as effective as the previous version. |
![]() ⭐⭐⭐⭐ HP 43-952 ATK 24-529 DEF 12-264 | Increases the wearer's attack power by | Increases survivability, which is useful when there are no healers in the team. Although this buff itself does not bring any tangible benefits, the weapon provides a fairly high increase to ATK without any conditions. |
![]() ⭐⭐⭐⭐ HP 48-1058 ATK 21-476 DEF 12-264 | Using a basic attack, skill, or super ability grants one level of Mischief. Each level increases attack power by | Although the "card" does not stand out among other epic weapons, it has a fairly simple and understandable passive effect. However, it is worth noting that to get the maximum number of stacks, you need to use one active skill (attack, skill and ult). |
![]() ⭐⭐⭐⭐ HP 43-952 ATK 21-476 DEF 15-330 | Increases the wearer's attack power by 16-32%. After defeating the enemy, crit. owner's chance is increased by 12-24% for 3 turns. | It is recommended to use against multiple targets, since you need to defeat the enemy to get the buff on the crit chance. If the effect is activated, this light cone becomes higher in the rating, especially at R5. The position is due to a certain narrow focus, especially since the character plays better in single-target. |
![]() ⭐⭐⭐ HP 38-846 ATK 16-370 DEF 9-198 | Increases damage of non-attack and owner's skill by | An optimal 3-star cone that can be used until you get your first epics. Increases damage of normal attacks and skills, which is a good bonus at the beginning of the game. |
What relics and ornaments are needed
Artifacts should contain key bonuses and stats. For example, increase ATK, crit. indicators or offer other options for strengthening.
Cavern relics
| Name | Effects | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
![]() | 2 parts: fire bonus +10%. 4 parts: increases the damage dealt by the user's skills by 12%, and also increases the fire damage of the next attack after using the ultimate by 12%. | The best set of relics, as it gives a fire bonus in total of 22% (10% - passive and 12% - after using the ult for the next hit). In addition, it increases the damage of skills that are actively used in combat. |
![]() | 2 parts: Damage dealt to debuffed enemies +12%. 4 parts: Increases Critical Chance by 4%. Critical Bonus dealt to enemies with at least 2/3 debuffs is increased by 8%/12% respectively. After the owner inflicts debuff on an enemy, the above effects are increased by 100% for 1 turn. | Alternative relics that work from the presence of debuffs on enemies. The gang leader applies a negative status when performing a strike, so he will be able to use both two parts and a double bonus. However, for four parts, a debuffer in the group is still required. |
![]() | 2 parts: crit chance +8%. 4 parts: Increases skill and super ability damage by 20%. After using an ultimate, the damage of the next skill increases by 25%. | A strong set that provides an increase to critical chance and increases the DPS of skills and ults, with which the heroine deals the most damage. Moreover, to maximize the use of the relic, you do not need to follow any rotation, since the additional boost is always activated if the ult was previously used. |
![]() ![]() ![]() | 2 parts: Damage dealt to debuffed enemies +12%. 2 parts: fire bonus +10%. 2 parts: crit chance +8%. | The above sets can be combined profitably, receiving an elemental bonus, increased damage and crit chance. The combination of these sets is superior in strength to other alternatives and is considered a good solution as a final equipment option. |
![]() | 2 parts: attack power +12%. 4 parts: For each damage over time effect an enemy has (up to max 3), the owner ignores 6% of that enemy's Defense when dealing damage. | Situational set with a strong bonus. Can be equipped with good stats, as the set allows you to ignore defense, which has a positive effect on all damage. The set loses to the options above and the 2+2 combinations with the Firesmith. |
| Firesmith of Lava-Forging / Musketeer of Wild Wheat / ВThief of Shooting Meteor | 2 parts: fire bonus +10%. 2 parts: attack power +12%. 2 parts: break effect +6%. | If you can't get full sets, you can combine them. For example, equip 2 parts of the Firesmith + 2 parts of Musketeer to get +10% Fire and +12 ATK. |
Planar ornaments
| Name | Effects | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| 2 parts: Increases Crit. Chance by 8%. If the owner's Crit. Chance is 70% (or higher), the damage of his/her BA and skill increases by 20%. | The best set for the character, as it increases the critical chance and enhances the basic attack and, most importantly, the skill. The skill deals significant damage after using the ultimate, and the planar in question will add additional %. | |
![]() | 2 parts: Critical hit chance +8%. When Crit Chance reaches 50% or more, Super Damage and Bonus Attack +15%. | Top 2 set after the above set appeared. Passively increases crit. chance, which makes it much easier to achieve balance with crit. bonus, which increases when upgrading traces. Also enhances superpower with 50% crit rate. |
![]() | 2 parts: Attack Power +12%. When the speed reaches 120 units and above, in addition to the attack power + 12%. | An ornament that is roughly on par with its predecessor due to the noticeable increase in ATK. However, to get the maximum bonus, you need to have at least 120 speed. If you have crit. 60-70% chance, it is better to give preference to this set. |
![]() | 2 parts: Break Effect +16%. When the speed reaches 145 or more, break effect is additionally increased by 20%. | In planar ornaments, break effect looks more relevant, for example, in combination with the Firesmith. However, it is still inferior to the previous options, since crits and ATK are initially more priority characteristics. |
Team Guide for Hook in HSR

In the team, Hook plays the role of a damage dealer and specializes in single targets, so against a group of enemies, it is recommended to partner her with the characters of the Path of Erudition. Although she can handle bosses on her own, in some cases the heroes of the Path of the Hunt will be very useful. The remaining slots are filled with supports - healers (Abundance), shielders (Preservation), buffers (Harmony) or debuffers (Nihility).

How Hook Skills Work

The abilities of the boss "Moles" inflict explosive damage depending on the attack power (ATK) indicator, and also effectively break fire armor. In addition, the heroine can, with a certain chance, impose Burn on enemies, in which they will begin to receive periodic damage.
Active skills
Ack! Look at This Mess!
Attacks and deals Fire DPS equal to 100% of attack power to a random enemy target at the start of combat. Also has a 50% chance of inflicting Burn status on all opponents for 3 turns. While under the effect of Burn, the enemy receives periodic Fire DPS equal to 50% of attack power at the start of each turn.
Hey! Remember Hook? (single strike)
Deals fire DPS (50-130%) to the selected target.
Hey! Remember Hook? (single strike/explosion)
Deals fire DPS (120-300%) to the target and applies the Burn status for 2 turns. At the beginning of each turn, the enemy receives periodic fire DPS (25-81,25%).
Deals fire DPS (120-350%) to the target and places Burn on them for 2 turns. At the same time, nearby monsters also receive fire DPS (40-100%). At the beginning of each turn, the enemy with the Burn status is dealt periodic DPS equal to 25% of the attack power.
- «Boom! Here Comes the Fire!» (single hit)
Deals fire DPS (240-480%) to an enemy target. After using the ultimate, the next activation of the skill is enhanced and deals damage to the selected opponent and adjacent targets.
Passive Skills
- «Ha! Oil to the Flames!» (Enhance)
Hitting an enemy target with the Burn status deals additional Fire DPS equal to 50% of Attack Power and additionally restores 5 Energy.
Leveling Order
Superpower > Skill = Talent > Basic Attack
When upgrading skills, it is recommended to give priority to the superpower. Then leve the skill and talent side-by-side, this will allow you to deal more damage and increase DPS from the Burn status. Therefore, if the Moles' boss acts as a secondary DD, the skill and talent become more relevant. Basic attack is most often needed to restore skill points, so it is upgraded last.

Eidolons
Hook's best eidolons are E1, E4 and E6.
- The first eidolon: Makes the skill stronger, which is one of the main sources of DPS. Considering that the shard is at the very beginning, it is considered the most accessible boost.
- The fourth eidolon: allows you to cast Burn on multiple enemies. Initially, the heroine is not very strong in AoE, and the eidolon gives her the opportunity to better reveal herself from different sides.
- The sixth eidolon: Increases damage to enemy targets under Burn, which in turn affects any damage - both permanent and periodic.

How to play Hook

The character specializes in destroying single targets and nearby enemies, as well as inflicting the Burn status with periodic damage. Her playstyle is simple and includes consistent use of all active skills - except for moments when instead of a skill it is necessary to perform a basic attack to restore skill points.
The main feature of the Moles' boss is the ability to constantly set enemies on fire. Therefore, it is recommended to apply Burn every turn as the effect ends (the duration of the burn from the skill is 2 turns, and the technique is 3 turns).
Although the order in which skills are applied may differ depending on the situation, there are a few key points to consider when setting up Hook's rotation:
- Use the technique to attack an enemy (if there are several, choose the one who is weak to fire). This will give you a 50% chance to apply the Burn status to all enemy targets at the start of the battle.
- When it's the character's turn, use the skill to have a 100% chance of triggering an additional Burn effect on the target enemy (including adjacent ones if there is a 4th Eidolon).
- Instantly use the super when the energy bar is full to finish off the weakest target or destroy enemy armor. This will also boost the next use of the skill to "explode".
- Try to attack enemies that have the Burn status. In this case, additional fire damage will be inflicted and 5 energy will be restored.
- Pay attention to skill points - if there are 2 or less, it is better to give preference to the basic attack, for example, if you need to heal, apply shields, etc.
Conclusion

Hook is a simple character in mechanics and application, who acts as a primary or secondary DD. Although she plays better against single targets, she deals damage to several mobs due to the "explosion" from the skill. The boss of the "Moles" specializes in the stable imposition of the Burn status, which allows her to help the team by inflicting periodic damage.
At later stages, she begins to give in to other representatives of her element, and competes poorly with characters of the Path of the Hunt or Erudition - since she is less powerful against solo targets, and her area-of-effect attacks are incapable of hitting all enemies anyway. However, this does not prevent her from remaining in demand as an additional source of damage outside the battlefield, making an impact in any battle.
We hope we've helped you put together the best build for Hook, the self-proclaimed boss of the adventurer squad in Honkai: Star Rail. Feel free to ask any build-related or team-building questions in the comments.
