
Switching regimes is changing the rules of the world. Minecraft, which allows unlimited construction, flight, and texture traversal, or, conversely, makes gameplay more challenging for a more immersive survival experience. The methods for changing these settings vary greatly between versions and editions: instructions for Bedrock won't work in Java. Using the commands requires enabling cheats, which can cause additional difficulties.
All the ways to switch game modes in Minecraft
Java Edition players can use hotkeys, while Bedrock users can change the mode in the menu. The universal method for both platforms is the console command "/gamemode."
Through world settings
This method is only available on the Bedrock version, where you can switch to another mode through the regular menu:
- Press "Esc" to open the pause menu.
- Click on "Settings".
- In the Game section, scroll down to Default Game Mode.
Once you click on Creative or Adventure, the setting will apply to all players on server.
If cheats are enabled on the server, each player can change this setting independently. To do this, scroll down to the "Game" section in the same section. Personal Game ModeAfter clicking the button, a list of all available options will open.
Using cheats
The fastest way to switch modes is to use console commands. To do this, you need to enable cheats:
- In newer versions, especially Bedrock, open Settings, go to "Game," and scroll to "Cheats." Toggle the "Enable" switch to the active position and confirm the changes.
- On pirated versions of Java edition, open the menu, select "Open for the network" and in the settings find the "Allow cheats" function.
Enter the command in the game chat /gamemode and specify the value you are interested in:
- /gamemode survival — survival.
- /gamemode creative — creative.
- /gamemode spectator — observer.
- /gamemode adventure - adventure.
Hotkeys for Java Edition
The game mode change menu is only available in the Java Edition. To open the game mode change menu hold down F3, and then F4 to select the next option.
How to make a creative mode
The main advantages of Creative Mode are unlimited freedom of action: no health bar, access to any item, instant block demolition, and the ability to fly. Creative Mode can be activated in several ways:

How to switch to survival mode
To enter this mode, use the command "/gamemode survival." In this mode, all items and blocks are obtained naturally, and the character has health and hunger bars that must be monitored.
Is it possible to make hardcore?
The only way to enable hardcore is to activate the option during the creation of the worldYou won't be able to do this later, after you've started the game.
The setting is only available in Java and is a more complex version of survival: after death, the character does not revive.
How to enable spectator mode
In spectator mode, the player cannot break or place blocks. The only options available are exploring biomes and flying through any textures. To enable it, use the command "/gamemode spectator".
The easiest and fastest way to enable this mode in Minecraft is to enter a command. This can be useful both for co-op map building and in survival games—for example, to quickly retrieve lost items.
