Companions in Starfield — companions who can be used on trips as combat partners, hired to work on outposts and spaceships. Depending on their role and skills, they provide useful bonuses, for example, reducing fuel consumption for gravity jumps, fighting alongside you on missions, or being involved in management. The game has many companions, each of which can become a useful crew member or partner.
In this guide we will tell you about all the companions in Starfield, where to assign them, how to recruit companions and what characters you can build with romantic relationship.
Who are companions and what are they for?
While traveling through the vast space of Starfield, you can assign companions as crew, who will go with you to the ship and will always be by your side on missions. Additionally, as in previous Bethesda games, you can open your companions' inventory and assign them to carry items.
There are also general crew members who can be taken to service outposts and ships. They are hired separately from companions and have only one skill. These characters require one-time payment, you won’t have to constantly pay them for their work.
How many companions are there?
More than 20 companions with a detailed biography, certain advantages and disadvantages can travel with the player. Among the companions and crew members there are both useful characters and rather mediocre individuals in terms of specialized skills. They can be found in bars located in cities such as New Atlantis, Aquila, Neon and Sidonia.
Four specific characters from Constellation, namely Kujou Sara Morgan, Sam Coe, Barrett and Andrea - potential romantic partners with their own specific quest lines. They may end up not only accompanying you on missions, but becoming official spouses.
Do companions' skill levels increase?
Each companion's skill ranks are final and cannot be upgraded, unlike your own. Heroes' abilities reflect their character and at the same time provide advantages if used correctly. Particularly useful are skills related to improving the ship, and combat, since companions can help in battles and go on quests.
Companions in battle
You can take only one companion with you on missions so that he can provide support in battle. Partners will help distract the enemy and reduce the ranks of enemies, thereby gaining time and helping to eliminate the entire enemy squad.
Can be assigned to an outpost or ship
Companions in Starfield can be assigned to work on a spaceship or at various outposts across the galaxy. This will improve their performance based on their abilities. For example, improve gravity jumps or load more goods for sale.
How to recruit partners
Each character will have to be recruited separately - for some it will be enough just to find them and pay money. You can bargain with someone using a skill Persuasion and reduce payouts.
Some companions require you to complete special quests, after which they will agree to join you. To discover new systems and planets, you will have to level up and constantly develop.
In another manual you can find out how to level up fast in starfield.
