Madam Ping is the Adept of Li Yue, who was once called the Lord of Songs and Wanderings in Genshin ImpactThousands of years ago, she fought shoulder to shoulder with Geo Archon, and today she protects the harbor from threats like Osial, disguised as an elderly woman. Behind this appearance lies a dramatic story: the death of her closest friend, the voluntary renunciation of her own youth, and the memory of loss. Having lived through the decline of an ancient civilization and the War of the Archons, she remains one of the few living witnesses to the era when the gods of Liyue still existed side by side with mortals.
Who is Madam Pin in Genshin Impact?
Madam Ping is a non-playable character and one of the Disciples who has been guarding Liyue since the Archon War. During the day, she can be found on the Yujing Terrace, admiring glaze lilies and shares stories from the past. Besides her human name, she has the adept title of "Lord of Songs and Wanderings." The Chinese version of her name is 萍姥姥, which roughly translates as "Grandmother Ping."
Behind the modest appearance of the elderly woman lies a skilled composer of music and a master of creating pocket dimensions: it was she who forged Serenity teapot — a portable world that the Traveler uses to build his own home.
History
Madam Ping traces her history back to the Guili Assembly, an ancient civilization founded by the gods Guizhong, Marchosius, and Morax over 3700 years ago. At that time, the Lord of Songs and Wanderings was renowned as an unrivaled gardener among the Adepts: it was she who gave the Moulder of Mountains the seeds of the karst creepers that later sprouted on Mount Hulao.
Things didn't go well with the Archon of Dust at first: they both argued about the nature of music—Guizhong believed that machines could create melodies as well as live performers, while Madam Ping insisted that music was born only from emotion. The dispute had to be resolved by Morax himself, who distributed the object of their dispute—the Cleansing Bell for ceremonies. After this incident, the rivals became close friends.
When the Archon War began and Guizhong died, Madame Ping begged Morax for that very bell so she could compose a melody in memory of her friend. After playing it just once, she unwittingly became the culprit behind the incident that began Fontaine's legend of the "Lady Above the Lake." She never performed the melody again.
Millennia later, the Lord of Songs and Wanderings, along with other Disciples, defended Liyue Harbor from Osial during the story arc "A turning point", sharing some of his strength with the Traveler to combat the Fatui shields.
What does the character look like
Madam Ping now appears as a short, hunched old woman with a kind face, always keeping her hands behind her back. But like any Adept, she is capable of assuming any form—she simply chose to remain as an elderly woman after Guizhong's death, in her memory.
What Madame Pin looked like in her youth was shown in the cutscene of the Lantern Rite from the 3.4 update: She is a stately girl with blue-gray hair, pulled back into a high hairstyle with a wooden hairpin, and purple eyes.
The entire outfit is built around aquatic symbolism. The wide sleeves, trimmed in white and turquoise, resemble fins, and the long, flowing cape on the back is decorated with a pattern of scales and waves. The clasps and decorative elements of the costume are shaped like golden fishtails.
Character
Although Madam Ping is a regular NPC, she's as nuanced a character as Li Yue, a playable character. This is revealed through short, yet emotional dialogue.
| Trait | As manifested |
| Wisdom and calm | He is philosophical about the transience of human lives, but has a sincere attachment to mortals. |
| Hidden sadness | Thousands of years after his death, Guizhong avoids playing their shared melody and rarely speaks directly about the past. |
| Caring for youth | She takes care of Yao Yao almost like her own granddaughter, although they are not related by blood. |
| Sense of humor | She easily makes fun of her own "old age", although her real age is measured in thousands of years. |
| Fidelity to Memory | Keeps the Cleansing Bell and other things associated with fallen friends as his main value |
Vision and Weapon
There's no official information about Madam Ping's abilities yet—she remains an NPC without the Eye of God, an element, or a weapon. However, leaks appear regularly and, since 2024, have been more or less consistent in detail.
Back in January 2024, insiders reported that the heroine would receive a 5-degree spear and take on the role of the main damage dealer with a tall female model. Later rumors added the Dendro element to this. Her gameplay will likely be tied to lore-related abilities: creating pocket dimensions and playing musical instruments, similar to the abilities of other former NPCs, such as Xianyun, which play on their plot features.
Release Date
Rumors about Madam Pin's playability have been circulating in the community since late 2023: first, insiders predicted her arrival in update 4.4, then 5.4 and 7.4. None of these predictions were confirmed, and there were no official announcements from HoYoverse.
The Slivers claim that she won't be released either SnowyIf the trend continues, the heroine's release can be expected no earlier than 2028.

Animations
The heroine's past and her friendship with Guizhong were shown in a cutscene for the Lantern Rite in update 3.4:
The Adept could be seen in the Moonlight Merriment event:

Another throwaway character like Adept Heron with his own unique mechanics? Ah, what was the original idea, letting useless characters like Lyuluk and Xiao play modern content, but... money triumphed over good—here you have new reactions, a bunch of new characters, and cook-blocks to speed up the spins...
Thank you so much for the comprehensive story. I just don't get the connection here: "Despite her good-natured image, Madam Ping is one of Li Yue's most profound characters." Should a good-natured image immediately dismiss a character's depth? And if the point was that she looks like a sweet little old lady, but is actually a powerful Adept, then this logic could also be applied to Marchosius (a good-natured bear who babbleth, but is actually a god who has endured much), and even to Morax himself (a modest funeral home consultant, but in reality...).
Hello! Thank you very much for taking the time to read the article. We've updated the section about character.
