In Genshin impact, the 'Alan Smithee, The Author of Fischl' quest from the 'Of the Unexpected' chapter is related to the princess of condemnation and is part of the Witch's Dictionary. Take on the quest from the Adventurers' Guild and accompany the archer and her companion, Oz, to discover the true identity of Mr. Nine, the creator of the books which the girl took her nickname from.
How to start the 'Of the Unexpected' quest
For the mission to appear in the journal, the following conditions must be met:
- Complete the introduction quest, "Witch's Homework: Solution".
- Fischl's level is at least 70.
Once both points are completed, look for The Little Witch's Dictionary in your inventory, start the mission and head to the Adventurers' Guild in Mondstadt.
The fastest way to reach the point is via the teleporter located above the alchemy workbench icon. Near the counter, the Traveler will encounter Fischl and Oz, who will be interested in the quest and ask to accompany the heroes.

Head to the Good Hunter restaurant to meet the editor of the Yae publishing house, who will be standing next to your table. Mr. Onodera will ask for your help in investigating true identity of the "Legend of the Shattered Halberd" author, Mr. Nine.
Look for clues nearby
Head to Qingce Village and question Chang the Ninth. Upon arrival, the group will discuss the urgency of the matter and begin searching for evidence about the writer's identity. To immediately initiate the desired dialogue, approach the table located to the left of the path.
Explore the place Fischl finds suspicious. Interacting with the tree stump will trigger a scene with the owner of the house, where Chang himself admits he could never have written anything like the "Legend of the Shattered Halberd."
After the conversation ends, you will be moved into a special story mode, where you won't be able to switch teams. The enemies you'll encounter are fairly weak, so no special character setup is required.
Follow the Seelie
Go toNod-Kraiand, together with Oz, find Mr. Nine, defeat the monsters before you so the creature can escort the Traveler to the cave and reveal the truth about the mysterious writer's identity. In fact, the book was written by a friend of Nicole the Witch.
To complete the quest, it is not necessary to unlock the autonomous region, since the zone is cut off from the rest of the world.
Epilogue
In the afterword, address Chang the Ninth to give him the fee, even though he was just an imitator. The man will be very surprised and delighted by such a coincidence.
