Gifts in Dragon's Dogma 2 play an important role in the system of relationships with non-player characters, with whom the Risen can increase the level of sympathy and even enter into romantic relationship. This useful feature allows you to get closer to the characters in order to simply please them or receive some benefit, for example, a discount in a store or a return gift.
In this guide, we’ll look at what gifts are needed in DD2, who you can give them to, and how to do it to increase your sympathy. We'll show you how to test your character's personal preferences and find out what item they'll like best, and we'll also provide a list of gifts that NPCs will happily accept.
Why give gifts in DD2
The gift system is strongly tied to the Arisen's relationships with other non-player characters he meets in the open world or during quests. Giving items increases affinity with NPCs, and high enough sympathy unlocks some privileges, such as receiving a discount if you court a merchant.
Some romantic NPCs such as Ulrika or wilhelmina, can also give gifts in return and send love letters - provided that the house in Vernworth is purchased from the quest "Home Sweet Home"so that they can deliver gifts there.
They mostly send something expensive or useful, such as gems, potions, and even moving stones, for which in a regular store you will have to pay up to 10 gold. Therefore, a couple of bouquets does not seem such an expensive investment to receive interesting gifts in return.
Other characters present things after meeting or small quest lines with them. Yes, a prostitute from brothel can give away a rare “Healer” scroll, which opens a new profession, and Beren - a cute bouquet of flowers.
The same rule applies to Battal characters, for example, Menella will bring her gifts to the house bought in Bakbattal from Adrea. If you want to receive valuable items, discounts, open additional achievements for sympathy and just spending time on walks with the heroes, then give them gifts and achieve goodwill.
The game also includes a trophy "Philanthropist", which can be unlocked if you earn the sympathy of 50 people. Stock up on resources and select the main characters with whom you want to achieve close relationships. For simple NPCs who do not participate in the main plot or side quests, 3-4 gifts may be enough.
How to give gifts in Dragon's Dogma 2
The donation function is available to almost all named NPCs and pawns of other people, but, unfortunately, it will not be possible to surprise your own team. According to history, everyone in the Risen squad is already quite close, working relationships dominate here, and there is no place for romance, so you cannot give items to your subordinates to pump up sympathy.
You can only give a parting gift when you dismiss or replace someone else's pawn. This point cannot be missed - each Risen must leave something as a souvenir for the companion to give it to his creator.
Pawns of other players
When returning a borrowed pawn to the rift, the Risen must leave any parting gift at their discretion. After you finish your journey and decide to fire your companion, you can evaluate the companion, after which the inventory window will open - select an item and give it to the pawn.
You can leave something valuable if your partner showed himself well and faithfully defended the Risen during the journey, or simply put a nice flower to please the main owner. This is an excellent way for players to interact with each other, with the help of which you can warn the owner about danger, thank him for a good companion, and simply exchange useful things.
If you sleep in a hotel or at home, and another player in the Rift used the main pawn, you will receive a return gift. After sleep, the travel log will open, which summarizes the rewards, ratings received and pawn quests completed.
When you assign a task to the main pawn, you can insert gold or certain items as a reward, which the companion will receive if he completes it successfully. Technically, these are not exactly gifts, but additional materials obtained as a result of the companion's interaction with another player.
It’s not a fact that you will always receive valuable things, since what other users give depends entirely on them, but there is a chance that they will leave something interesting as a token of gratitude. If you receive good gifts, most likely the pawn is well equipped, pumped up and wears valuable equipment, so it performs well in battle.
NPC
If you want to increase your sympathy level, then talk to any named NPC and select the option "Give a gift"to open inventory. Mark any item, weapon or armor that you want to give to the character. You should choose only those things that you don’t mind losing, since after confirmation it’s already you can't return them.
After further conversation, you will understand whether you liked the gift or not. If the recipient reacts coldly, then sympathy for the Risen will definitely not increase. Joyful characters will notice good taste and accept the item with gratitude, after which you will become a little closer to them.
You can only upgrade relationships in this way once per game day. Giving several things in a row will not achieve maximum sympathy, even if you give something very valuable and rare. It is better to wait a day, taking a nap on a bench, in a house or hotel, before continuing your courtship.
If the donation function is not available, then check if there are any unfinished quests with this character. In story dialogues, the Risen cannot interrupt and make a surprise, but at the end of the task the option will open again. If you meet an NPC you can't give a gift to, but there are no visible tasks with him, try to come back later and try again.
How to choose gifts for NPCs
Each character has personal preferences that should be taken into account when choosing a gift. If you miss and hand over something that does not arouse any interest, then you may not expect an increase in intimacy. Try to please the heroes and present only what they will gladly accept. No one will like rotten vegetables, dried flowers and rotten meat, so always pay attention to the quality.
There are universal gifts that will appeal to almost every character. These include:
- Bouquet of flowers - can be combined directly in the inventory from any two colors that you find in the wild. A good sign of attention that strengthens the connection between the giver and the recipient.
- Eternal bonds - a special ring that is quite difficult to get. Perhaps symbolizes engagement rings, although the relationship system does not provide for marriage and loyalty to one specific NPC. Can be obtained by exchanging seeker tokens in the guild, or by guessing the riddle of the Sphinx's futility. This is a very valuable gift, emitting a mystical light, and significantly strengthening the connection.
Find out the characters' preferences
Before you give out gifts, be sure to check notesto find out the favorite items of a particular hero. Go to section "Non-Player Characters", where there will be a general list of NPCs that the Risen met during quests, campaigns, or crossed paths in cities. Add significant characters To favorites, so that later you don’t have to look for them in a long list, but go straight back to your preferences.
Scroll to the hero you want and check what he likes. You can also determine whether the character approved the item through further dialogue. If he thanks you and is delighted, it means the thing is definitely valuable to him. Otherwise, the NPC may say something like “I don’t understand what this is about” or “I don’t see the point in this.”
Types of Items NPCs Like
Each item falls into a known category, which determines whether the NPC will like the gift or not. All types of gifts:
- Delightful — gold bugs, flowers, rings, bouquets and other good items that can be bought from merchants or collected in the open world. Keep in mind that the beetles will also be useful to the Risen himself, so it’s better to save them for increasing load capacity protagonist.
- Dear - goods that are sold at high prices from merchants and shops, such as awakening stones and movement stones. Such gifts will definitely be unforgivably expensive for a simple gift, so it’s better to pay attention to the second category of items that will attract the chosen character, because everyone has two preference options.
- interesting - anything unusual, often associated with hunting or battles: weapons, armor and parts of monsters, for example, tails and skins. Such heroes will appreciate quite simple equipment; you definitely shouldn’t give them legendary bows and two-handed swords.
- Beautiful - ordinary flowers, decorations and everything that is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. In this case, it is not necessary to present precious things; you can get by with quite simple objects.
- Rare - valuable loot from monsters and bosses, which is not found very often and is not sold by merchants. If you have not yet reached a high level and cannot kill so easily gorgon, then simply switch to the second subcategory and select another trophy.
- Elegant - rare potions, fruit wine, unusual items from monsters and spell books, grimoires. However, it is better not to give away valuable works - you can try to hand over fakes from Ibrahim's Hardware Shop in order to leave the original ones for completing quests.
The game does not have exact indications of what items are of an interesting or rare type, but there is a rough list of gifts that will help you navigate your preferences and come up with what to give the NPC. Many items are found in the open world, given out as quests or sold at merchants, so there shouldn’t be any problems getting them.
There are simple and rarer items in any subcategory, but it is not necessary to kill a griffin every time for feathers if the character is happy with a simple slate horn, which can be obtained from the ogres roaming the forests of Vermund. Remember that gifts do not come back and not all pay off with interest, so do not waste valuable resources just like that, but save them for upgrading equipment.
Category | Examples of items |
Delightful | Flowers and fruits: apple, cranberry, fig, quince, sunshine, moonlight, bouquets of flowers, fruit wine. |
Dear | Ore and potions: gold ore, panacea, hot mixture. |
interesting | Loot from monsters, gems, weapons, armor: small fang, monster skin, poisonous scales, flayer horn, slate horn, ogre claw, ogre spur, harpy feather, poisonous feather, jasper, onyx, tiger eye. |
Beautiful | Ore and jewelry: copper, silver, gold, fuligin, Yurgon iron, miasmite, rings, necklaces. |
Rare | Materials and valuables: fragment of awakening stone, large griffin claw, stone of movement. |
Elegant | Books, potions, monster parts: all-healing elixir, ogre claw, ogre spur, great griffin claw, backpacks. |
What gifts to give to NPCs: all character preferences
You can give gifts to almost all NPCs, but you will not always receive any benefits. Throwing precious stones at a prostitute or a cab driver will only waste your time and resources - the prices for the services of courtesans and oxcart rides will not change because of this. It’s better to bring them something cheaper if you just want to increase the number of lovers for the sake of achievement. Below is a table with all the heroes, their locations and preferences.
