Skyrim TOP 8 housecars: from worst to best

In Skyrim, the player can only take one bodyguard with him, so choose wisely. After the Dragonborn helps one of the Jarls and gets a house, he can appoint a personal housecarl.
In the province of Skyrim, the jarls can bestow the title of tan on Dovakin. For this to happen, you need to help several residents of the corresponding settlement, and then its head will notice the actions of the hero. In addition to the fact that it is very honorable to receive the title, the player also has new privileges, one of which is appointment of own housecarl.

Dovahkiin Companion Rating

These characters become companions and bodyguards of the Dragonborn, fighting side by side or guarding the estate. In general, they have the same skills and dialogue, but there are some details that make the rest better or worse than others. Therefore, we have formed the top Dovakin's bodyguards in ascending order.

Content

Argis Bastion

Argis Bastion

After receiving the title of thana in possession Limit, the player can move to Vlindrel Hall with Argis as housecarl. Like all other representatives of the rating, he is strong in combat, but unlike most, he is polite in dialogues.

Argis is the only housecarl in Skyrim who cannot be assigned to the role of a manor manager.

If the protagonist marries Stenvar, Bastion will constantly attack the player (most likely due to a bug). These facts make Argis the worst of the bodyguards.

Yordis Maiden of the Sword

Yordis Maiden of the Sword

The dragonborn will receive a housecarl in the form of Jordis after becoming the thane of the domain Haafingar. Like Argis, she is a valiant protector, but without a pronounced personality in her dialogue. In addition, there are a few small things (again, bugs) because of which it cannot be called an effective companion.

From time to time, the Maiden of the Sword will disappear for no reason, and you can find her in standard equipment in the Highspire Manor.

She also doesn't use some bows, even if they are better than the ones she has. For example, Jordis does not pick up the powerful Nightingale Bow. Such things annoy many gamers, so it is located only in the penultimate place in the top.

Gregor, Nord Warrior of Dawnstar

Gregor of Dawnstar

About Gregor, Bodyguard of the Thane of the Domain White Coast, you can say very little, and that is why he is in sixth position in the ranking. Like all housecarls, he performs well in battles, but does not use any unique mechanics or skills.

Despite having a high skill with one-handed weapons, By default, Gregor uses a two-handed sword., with which its effectiveness in battle decreases. Fortunately, this problem is easily solved by equipping a good one-handed weapon.

Gregor is an example of a gray and uninteresting character, a typical representative of the Nords. Unfortunately, this is all that can be said about him.

Jonah, Warrior of the Rift

Jonah of the Rift

housecarl tana possession The rift, And she, communicates with the Dragonborn quite sharply and rudely. Even if you marry her, the dialogues will still be forced and unfriendly. While she excels on the battlefield, traveling with her is definitely not fun.

If you assign Jonah to the role of a house guard, she will take such a position too seriously. For example, when a player kills a chicken in the Honey Garden, which already belongs to Dovakin, the northern warrior without hesitation will begin to attack him. As a result, this bodyguard does not differ from others in any way, with the exception of a heavy temper.

Calder, Nord of Hjerim

Calder of Hjerim

Like everyone else, the housecarl of the tana of the domain Eastmarch cannot boast of unique abilities in battle. He is a standard Nord warrior, but in the dialogues with Calder you feel more individualthan most other bodyguards.

While the bulk of his lines are the same as those of his other companions, the Hjerim warrior can at times talk about ghosts in the dwarven ruins or talk about cracking a giant's head like a walnut.

Such features make him an interesting comrade, with whom it is pleasant to fight and travel.

Raya, Redguard of Falkreath

Raya of Redguard

Raya is the only defender of Dovakin in Skyrim who is not of the Nord race. To make her a housecarl, you need to become a thane Falkreath. Despite her unusual origin, most of her dialogue is the same as other bodyguards. Because of this, the character seems inferior.

The Valiant Redguard has earned the third place in the rankings due to unique combat actions. Unlike other companions, she can equip one-handed weapons in each hand without having to put a pickaxe or a Forsworn Sword in inventory.

As Raya excels in the dual-wield combat style, she quickly and beautifully dispatches her enemies.

Lydia, Dragonsreach Warrior

Lydia from Whiterun

Almost every player's first housecarl is Lydia from Dragonreach. Perhaps that is why she is considered the most popular defender of the protagonist. To take her into your service, it is enough to get the title of thane whiterun. Her impressive combat skills will make it much easier passing difficult quests for low-level heroes.

Lydia has a distinct personality and character of her own. compared to other defenders, especially in the Dragonborn expansion. While adventuring through the lands of Skyrim and Solstheim, you can hear a lot of remarks from this Huscarl. They mention gnome ruins, the tower of Tel Mithryn, the stones of the All-Maker and much more. Thanks to Lydia's remarks, the passage of the game becomes more interesting than with the rest of the defenders.

Valdemar, battlemage of Hjaalmarch

Valdemar of Hjaalmarch

While almost all housecarls are warriors, Valdemar is also has magic skills. Bodyguard of the Thane of Dominion Hjaalmarch skillfully owns one-handed weapons, along the way casting spells from the schools of destruction, restoration and change. His combination of restorative spells coupled with wood or stone flesh magic makes Valdemar very durable in battle.

Such abilities make the defender a very versatile fighter, especially given the use of the right spells. For example, a battle mage from Hjaalmarch can resurrect a fallen draugrto fight on the side of the player. That is why Valdemar takes the honorable first place in the ranking of the best Dragonborn housecarls.

Marcurio is the best of them all, you don't even have time to reach the enemy, he just bends you with lightning bolts)

I always thought this half-assed mage-warrior was as useless as a goat's milk. At least at lower levels, while there's still a need for a companion. After forty, they just get in the way. Well, with my style of play, anyway.

Personally, I think the best companion of all is Serana from the Dawnguard expansion. She's essentially the same as Voldemar, but she's immortal and shares my opinions on "wonderful Skyrim weather," the intelligence of the draugr, and the danger of Dwemer ruins. And of course, I love listening to her constant complaints about "too much sun" and then her subsequent "why do we need to go into a cave? I've already spent a lot of time underground."
wonderful girl 🙂

Serana is not bad, but her habit of reviving the corpses of those whom I just wanted to search was infuriating) maybe it is possible to change this somehow, but I don’t know how.
As for companions, I only ran with Lydia (until I accidentally killed her in a dungeon with a necromancer during Meridia's quest. There was a fierce fight there, I was swinging my axe in all directions, and she got hit hard. I felt very sorry for her. For a long time afterward, I returned to that dungeon and knocked back a couple of bottles of Argonian, in memory of the first huscarl who lost his life because of my clumsiness), Mjel Lioness, Serana, and Raya. Of these, I can say that they are essentially equally useful in combat.

Why didn't you resurrect her? Not even with a console command, but with a spell to load the last save? I always used to do that for my companions.
