The premiere of a new anime from Hayao Miyazaki "How are you?" on the screens of Japanese cinemas and immediately won an "A" rating from critics and the delight of the audience. It is noteworthy that the management of Ghibli Studio until the very premiere did not show any trailers or frames and did not reveal the plot details of the picture, limiting itself only to the poster and the title. According to Toshio Suzuki, head of the studio, the management decided to repeat the experience of the past, when there was often no large-scale PR campaign before the premiere of the film in the cinema. Such a move appealed to modern viewers, and on the first weekend of "How are you?" earned more 1,8 billion yen (1,1 billion in rubles), leaving behind such hits of recent years as "Your Name" (1,2 billion yen) and "Weather Child" (1,64 billion yen).
Critics praised the film's animation, with every frame hand-crafted. According to reviewers, it is "unlike anything seen in the past decade". On Anime News Network "How are you?" rated "AT" and praised the unique world, which is completely different from the past works of the Japanese genius, the themes raised in the film and the quality of the animation, but the story was called predictable. The story received an average rating from reviewers B+. In particular, Richard Eisenbeis called the plot component the only weak point of the cartoon. Cinemas+ dubbed the title "the pinnacle of Miyazaki's work".
The "How are you?" inspired by the 1937 philosophical children's book of the same name by Genzaburo Yoshino. Some sources claim that the plot of the cartoon is based on an ordinary 15-year-old teenager Mahito, who lost his mother, who died due to the bombing of Tokyo during World War II. The younger sister of the deceased parent becomes the new wife of the hero's father, after which the family leaves away from the capital. After the mysterious disappearance of his new mother, the boy teams up with a mysterious talking heron and finds himself in a parallel world full of dizzying fantasies and philosophical meaning in order to find his missing parent.
Anime film "How are you?" plan to officially release in Russian cinemas until the end of the year 2023, but the exact date has not yet been announced. Ratings on aggregator sites will appear after the release of the picture in North America. It is noteworthy that in the American box office the cartoon will be released under the name "The Boy and the Heron" - "The boy and the heron."
