There are a lot of things that make a game really stand out: it's the graphics, the catchy story, and the interesting characters. However, it is the believable and intimidating villains that leave the strongest impression.
Science fiction as a genre gives authors and screenwriters almost endless scope for imagination. This means that it allows you to find more and more unusual motives that can move characters who have sided with evil. Villains in Sc-Fi don't care about small things like morality or justice. Their ambitions truly reach galactic proportions.
10th place — GLaDOS (Portal)
GLaDOS is one of the most recognizable video game villains of all time. Valve Portal and Portal 2 became famous as puzzle games, partly due to their innovative game mechanics, but mostly due to the inclusion of sarcastic malevolent artificial intelligence.
Although GLaDOS is technically a robot and incapable of emotions, her actions can often look very impulsive. The worst part about interacting with this AI is that she never gives back the promised cake.
9th place - Simone (Nier: Automata)
Simone from NieR Automata is not the main villain, as the game's "real" antagonist is more difficult to determine due to the many storylines available to players. Simone is the boss and main enemy in the Amusement Park section of the game.

Sephiroth is so beloved as a villain that he was added to Super Smash Bros Ultimate in 2020to confront Cloud. His terrifying theme music is enough to guarantee him a place on any list of the greatest gaming villains.
4th place - Shodan (System Shock 2)
Shodan from System Shock 2 is a sentient, hyper-optimized data access network. She is a villainess similar to Skynet from the Terminator franchise. Shodan is AI, who went over to the side of evil during an attempt to seize control of it by a hacker.
This protagonist was also the main antagonist in the original System Shock game. Thought to be destroyed, Shodan actually landed on a distant planet, biding its time and enslaving native species to a hive mind called the Many.
3rd place - Handsome Jack (Borderlands)
Handsome Jack is one of the most evil characters in gaming history. and one of the most charismatic. He is the main antagonist of the Borderlands series, with the exception of Borderlands 3, where he appears. either as a person, or as a voice, or as a holographic image of his consciousness.
Handsome Jack is the epitome of selfishness. 2nd place - Reapers (Mass Effect)
The Reapers are similar to the Flood in that they seek to destroy the universe and wipe out all life. without any conscious thought behind their actions. Reapers are semi-sentient starship-like creatures that leave Dark Space every few millennia to cleanse the galaxy, which is part of the cycle of harvest and rebirththat has been happening since the beginning of time.
Like the Flood, these creatures have no evil intent. However, from the point of view of human morality, what they do to innocent beings, can't be justified by anything. They are a recurring antagonist in the Mass Effect series and arguably one of the greatest evils ever introduced in a sci-fi game.
1st place - Giygas (Earthbound)
Giygas is just the embodiment of evil. A universal cosmic destroyer that is difficult for mortals to understand. It is presented in the form crooked screaming face with a frightening, blood-soaked color scheme. He seeks to strip humanity of PSI magic and create a nightmarish reality for all under his control.
This is why so many of the enemies in Earthbound seem innocent and out of place - Giygas made them cruel, corrupting their minds and ruining their lives. What could be worse than a villain who breeds other villains?
