Merchants in Baldur's Gate 3 distributed throughout the world. While many characters can be traded in BG3, there are special ones, marked with a special wallet marker, that offer a rich assortment of unique items that cannot be found otherwise. Such NPCs are very valuable. can provide unique equipment, supplies, and potions that are essential on Tactics difficulty.
In the guide, we will introduce all the merchants in Baldur's Gate 3, listing their location and the most important items in the assortment.
How to trade in Baldur's Gate 3
To trade, start a dialogue with a merchant, select a replica from the list, or click on a special icon in the lower left corner of the dialog box. Sometimes, before you start trading with the characters, you need to listen to some of their lines or even pass a couple of checks with karmic dice. On the exchange screen:
- Drag and drop your property to the free field on the left to sell items.
- Select an item from your inventory and drag it to the right empty box to buy it.
- Click on the scale icon to equalize bids based on the value of the ratio of items sold and bought. This action will add gold on either the seller or buyer side to level the trade.
- Click "Exchange".
The trading mechanic in Baldur's Gate 3 involves the possibility of bargaining: try to get a valuable seller's item, the total value of which in gold is less than the value of the goods you offered. The success of such an enterprise is influenced by the characteristic Seller Relations.
How to improve merchant attitude
For each character, merchants have a reputation system. The relationship between the seller and the buyer is checked in the barter window, in the lower right corner. The higher the level of this parameter, the lower the prices and the higher the chance of a concession that the seller will make when bartering in a situation of price inequality in your favor. Methods on how to increase the reputation of merchants:
- Give your counterparties items or gold. Move them to your inventory and click Exchange without asking for funds. To maximize trust, you need to donate items or money worth 600 gold.
- Since reputation is individual, it is better to assign the role of trading partner 1 to your character, so that only he improves relations in the process of exchange and trade.
Of course, it makes the most sense to build relationships with the hero with the highest Charisma for maximum price reduction.
How to rob a merchant
Use steal to get the right item. The most important feature in this process is Sleight of hand. How to rob a merchant:
- Take 1 character and unhook him from the group.
- Enter stealth mode.
- Carefully approach the merchant from behind so that he does not notice. You can not be in the zone of its visibility, indicated by red. Click LMB to steal. We advise you to log in first. turn-by-turn modeto prevent the merchant from turning around while selecting items.
- Select an item from inventory. Each has its own complexity of theft, depending on the size and quantity.
- With an item selected, press steal and pass a Sleight of Hand check.
- If the check is successful, then immediately try to escape or go into invisibility.
Often, even after successful thefts, sellers quickly find that their pockets have been picked. If they notice a player nearby, then at the next dialogue, they can pass a check with karmic dice to ward off suspicion, pay a ransom, or give up a stolen item. The dice check is only an option for the first catch.

Interestingly, Roa Moonlight takes the side of the goblins during the kneading in Act 2, but after losing half of her health, she disappears from the battlefield. Then she can be found in the Lunar Towers (there will be a funny dialogue) and from there she dumps before the assault (apparently, the conclusions are drawn). This is the only unkillable merchant I've met so far (not counting Withered, but he's not exactly a merchant).
* kneading with goblins in act 1, of course
- if you convince Astarion to bite Arai, she will give a cool potion (permanent increase of +2 to the strength of anyone who drinks). Astarion, however, will be very dissatisfied
- Trader Lann Tarva (Lunar Towers) can be quickly made the most profitable: say that you are a warrior, pass a persuasion check. The attitude of the merchant will change to respectful, the reputation to the maximum, and the prices will become very pleasant. He can shake off any rubbish until the assault. If you storm with harpers, the merchant will die, some of the goods can be removed from the corpse.
In my case, the Zhentarim froze without even engaging in battle while I dealt with the remaining goblins. MB because all the goblins became hostile after killing Razglin. In general, while I was clearing their fortress, the Zhentarim disappeared. Which made it possible to clean out their room, which they were guarding, hehe
