Preventive measures are a side quest in Cyberpunk 2077, added in update 2.5 and timed to coincide with the release of the Netflix anime series "Edgerunners 2." A new order comes from the King: he asks for help in breaking a member of his gang out of prison, but he doesn't reveal the details of the plan. Subsequent events force quick decisions that will determine the fates of the prisoners and V himself.
How to start quest
The quest serves as a prologue to the events of the second season of Edgerunners and introduces Wick Kingsley and his story prior to the anime's first episode. To break Miguel out of prison, he contacted fixer Wakako and asked her to find a suitable mercenary, who turned out to be V.
To receive the task, you only need to fulfill two conditions:
- Complete the final quest of Act I, "A Pass to the Major Leagues".
- Complete any two of Wakako Okada's orders.
If everything necessary has been done, wait for the message from the fixer in which she will offer work.
Head to the meeting point at the BuryGer diner near Night City Prison in Arroyo, Santo Domingo. Sit at the table and wait for the call from the client.
After finishing the conversation, cross the road and enter the prison through the visitors' entrance. Follow the guard's instructions: go through the implant deactivation procedure and place your palm on the scanner.
Walkthrough of the "Preventive Measures" quest in Cyberpunk 2077
Wick Kingsley's plan was to quickly send V to prison and carry out a rescue operation against his gang member from within. With the help of netrunner Meshuga, disable the deadly chip in your head, help Miguel, and decide what to do with the other prisoners. Completing the mission will lead directly to the events of the first episode of the anime "Edgerunners 2."
Find the package smuggled into the prison
After waking up in your cell, wait for Meshuga to call. To allow him to open the bars remotely, use the scanner to locate yourself: examine the double doors on the left.
Netrunner will tell you about the equipment left for V in the restroom—go there and look under the bench opposite the mirror. From the bag, get the King's outfit and the iconic Regalia revolver.
Find the Death Stranding Chip Server
In the corridor, neutralize the guards before they activate the "Suicide Bomber" chip. If the blue bar on the screen fills before they do, you'll have to restart from the checkpoint. After the battle, collect the pass from the marked body.
Reach the security center, eliminate another guard, and connect to the terminal at the entrance. In the "Files" section, find information that will help you deactivate V and Miguel's "Suicide Bomber" chips. The top two files provide basic information for completing the job, while the bottom one allows you to free Vex.
After reading the documents, connect to the "Death Strike" chip server located on the wall near the doorway in the fenced-off room.
The system is activating the chip launch protocol, so you need to make a decision quickly while the blue bar is filling. To survive, follow these steps:
- Hurry up Meshuga by selecting "Faster!"
- First, deactivate your chip - if you don't do it in time, V will die.
- Deactivate Miguel's chip.
- Optionally, choose the blue action to save Vex - this choice will not affect the rest of the quest.
Infiltrate the Crisis Center and connect to the Death Stranding Chip Server.
Follow Meshuga's directions and first reach the armory to retrieve your items and the mine. Along the way, you'll have to deal with the guards in the hallway and courtyard.
The door to the crisis center elevator is locked, and there are three ways to open it:
- Open by force (Strength 20).
- Burn the electrical circuits through the yellow shield on the left (Technique 15).
- Hack by completing the mini-game on the terminal on the right.
Take the elevator down to the circular room, fight off the attacking guards, and connect to the server. At this point, you'll have a choice:
- Activate the "suicide bombers" - follow Meshuga's suggestion and kill the prisoners in Block "B".
- Deactivate the "death row" - try to save the prisoners who will start a riot.
Это решение will not affect on the outcome of the task.
Defeat Darius and reach the extraction point.
Find your way out of the Crisis Center by opening the ventilation shaft in the adjacent room and reach the sports grounds where you will face the boss fight with Darius Bale.
The fighter is clad in an armored exoskeleton with a shield, making it difficult to attack him head-on. To win, try to flank and target the enemy's living body. If you've upgraded the "Vulnerability Analysis" perk from the Biochip tree, target weak points to damage the cyborg's structure and inflict massive damage. You can take cover from his attacks behind the bars around the basketball court.
After defeating the enemy, take the pass from the fallen enemy and reach the extraction point in the morgue. Approach the marked wall and plant the mine.
Once you're outside, immediately call for transport and escape from the police to complete the mission.
Is Vex worth saving?
The opportunity to help cellmate Vex appears if in the security center file read With her name. Once you connect to the chip server, you'll need to quickly decide who to save first: yourself, Miguel, or Vex. You'll have to deactivate yourself and Miguel either way, but you don't have to save the prisoner you barely know.
| Choosing | Aftermath |
| Deactivate Vex's suicide chip | The girl will be able to escape, but will no longer appear in the story or side quests. |
| Don't save Vex | Vex will die during the riot. |
Do as Meshuga or the King says
At the crisis center, the client and his netrunner disagree on the next steps. Meshuga proposes sacrificing the prisoners from Block B, while Kingsley wants to keep them alive to stage a riot.
| Choosing | Aftermath |
| Do as Meshuga says | Activate the suicide bombers | The prisoners from Block B die and do not interfere with the team's escape. |
| Do as the King says | Deactivate the suicide bombers | The prisoners stage a riot, distracting the guards, which makes it easier for the team to retreat. |
The decision to activate or deactivate the "suicide bombers" affects only the King and his crew, and also slightly alters the dialogue. It has no effect on the task or V's final reward.
Rewards
Once you escape the police and call the client, they'll transfer €7,000. Furthermore, after the mission, you'll retain all of Wick Kingsley's iconic gear:
- electromagnetic revolver "Regalia";
- the King's cloak;
- King's body armor;
- King's glasses;
- the King's pants;
