Where to find chess caves
Magic chess puzzles are found in some treasure vaults, denoted on the map Special icons. It's impossible to tell from the map which cave hides an underground room, so in this guide, we'll show each one and help you solve all the puzzles.
How to solve chess puzzles in Hogwarts Legacy
Despite the presence of an element of chance in chess riddles, due to the fact that in each campaign in the same cave a random figure drops out to move around the board, there is a general technique consisting of 4 steps:
- Open the entrance to the treasure vault.
- After entering the dungeon hall, apply Revelio and find the suspicious object highlighted in blue.
- Turn an object into an enchantment Transfigurations into a chess piece.
- Place a chess piece on the square to defeat the king on the board using Wingardium Leviosa.
The movements of the figures and on which cells to place them based on the resulting option:
- Elephant - walks diagonally. Set also diagonally to the king.
- Rook - moves forward and backward, left and right. Place the rook in relation to the enemy king in the same way.
- Horse - walks with the letter G. Look for a point from where you can reach the king along the G-return path.
- Queen - walks diagonally and on 4 sides for any distance.
- Pawn - Moves 1 square forward diagonally.

Chess puzzle 1
Location: Cragcroftshire
The entrance to the cave is walled up, but there is a platform with a symbol of fire nearby.
Walk down the path from the entrance to the spider lair, deal with the enemies and move the guarded cube to the platform. Apply fiery Incendio or Confringo to activate the cube on the platform and the passage to the puzzle will open.
inside with Revelio find the object highlighted in blue: it could be chair, vase or pot. Apply on site Transfiguration to turn into a chess piece. Move the Wingardium Leviosa spell to a position from which the piece will defeat the king.
- When dropped Elephant place it on the square from which the bishop will reach the king diagonally.
- Rook walks in a straight line in 4 directions. Bet on the cell from which a straight line is drawn to the king.
- Horse - to the cell, from where you will reach the goal along the L-return path.
- Queen - on a cell from which you can reach diagonally or straight.
- Pawn - on the cell, from which 1 cell diagonally to the king.
In our case, the elephant fell out, so we put it on any cell, from where it will reach the goal diagonally. Check out the screenshots above. After the fall of the king, a chest with a reward will appear.
Chess puzzle 2
Location: Cragcroftshire
The cave is located north of the settlement of Cragcroft. Clear the left handle at the entrance with a fire spell from greenery and pull Accio, and just pull the right one, after which the passage to the storage with chess will open.
Inside, the same solution technique as before:
- Look for a suspicious object.
- Transform it into a figure.
- Depending on the piece, put it in the right place so that it reaches the king.
In our case, randomly presented a rook, which means you need to place it in a straight line with respect to the king.
Chess puzzle 3
Location: Lake Marunvim.
To open this vault, you need Alohomora level 3. collect Moons and bring Mr. Moon to maximize the unlocking enchantment level.
At the entrance to this repository there is a platform that requires the installation of a cube, which lies in yurt poachers from a nearby camp. Deal with the poachers in the camp and open with Alohomora 3 cage lock with cube.
Next, move the cube to the entrance to the storage, placing it on the platform. Activate with an enchantment Glacius, then the door will open.
Inside, everything is the same as before: turn the object being moved into a figure with Transfiguration, put it on the right cell with the help of Wingardium Leviosa.
Chess puzzle 4
Location: Poidseer Coast.
Entrance in the north of the region. At the entrance gate quickly and sequentially , use the Depulso on two rotating blades to unlock the passage to the chess treasury, opening both gates evenly.
Inside, find the object and put it in the correct position. Random ordered and issued a knight, which was installed at the point from where the enemy king is reachable along the L-shaped path.

Hi! The item should be somewhere in the tomb. I also sometimes encountered the problem that the item I needed simply wasn't highlighted as interactive. It could be on the chessboard or somewhere in the corner. Maybe re-enter the game and double-check the tomb's interior.
