Blasphemy in The Blood of Dawnwalker: Who Stole the Banner?

Investigate the theft of a church banner, find the thief, and decide Gremla's fate.

Cohen talks to Přemysl next to the stolen banner

"Blasphemy" is a side quest in the prologue The Blood of Dawnwalker, in which Cohen volunteers to help his neighbor from Lasleya's Hollow, Gremle. A banner—a church banner she was preparing for the Bloody Mass—has been stolen. Investigate the crime, track down the thief, and resolve the neighbors' differences. The outcome of the prologue, the weaver's fate, and the reward depend on your decision.

How to start the Blasphemy quest

In the story quest FadingWhen your father sends you to Anka for herbs, you'll have free time and the opportunity to take on side missions. Head to the center of Lasleya, where people have gathered near Gremla's barn. Talk to the upset woman and offer to help you find the thief.

Follow the timer in the upper right corner of the screen: the quest must be completed before the end of the day, and it will cost one period of time.

Using your senses, follow the thief's trail and find the banner Gremla wove on Brencis's orders. The banner must be returned before the Blood Mass, or the Vrahyrs will punish the artisan.

Explore Gremla's barn and surrounding area using Sense Mode

When the woman allows you to look around, activate your senses (RMB/LT) and examine the objects highlighted in yellow:

  • A loom inside a barn.
  • Footprints and cane marks to the left of the building.
  • A torn piece of the banner at the end of the tracks.
A scrap of a banner with a blood stain

When examining a piece of cloth, turn it over and discover traces of blood. The evidence collected points to two important details:

  • the thief walks with a cane;
  • During the theft he injured his hand.

If the quest objective hasn't updated, take another look and examine what's still yellow. Footprints and cane marks are different clues.

Next, you'll have to investigate the crime yourself. You'll need to interview residents who match the description compiled from the evidence found.

You don't have to talk to everyone: you can just go straight away to Přemysl and convict him on the basis of the evidence already collected.

Where to find Přemysl

Head to Přemysl's house on the northeastern edge of the village. A man is sitting on a bench in the courtyard.

In the dialogue, ask him about the cane and the wound on his hand, and then select the yellow line with the hourglass icon. After that, time will advance by one division.

Přemysl admits to stealing the banner. He considers placing the image of the Vrachyrs above the church altar an insult to the faith.

Convince Přemysl to return the banner or report to Gremla

The dialogue will lead to different quest outcomes: you can convince the man to return the banner to the weaver, inform Gremla about the thief yourself, or agree with his arguments and keep the crime a secret.

To convince someone to return what was stolen, choose:

  1. "If I anger Brencis, my family will be in danger."
  2. "This is just an empty gesture. Give me back the banner."

Selecting a replica "You haven't convinced me.", decide to inform Gremla about Přemysl yourself. This will lead to the same outcome as Přemysl returning the banner.

One can agree with Přemysl with the phrase: "Maybe it's true...".

The choice you make will impact the final quest reward, as well as the events that occur during the Bloody Mass.

Přemysl or Gremla: Which Choice to Make?

The task can be completed in four ways:

Solution Rewards The aftermath at Mass
Force Přemysl to return the banner Experience (325) and denarii (25) Gremla remains alive, the banner will be hung in the church
Report to Gremla about Přemysl Experience (325) and denarii (25) Gremla remains alive, the banner will end up in the church
Keeping the secret of Přemysl Amulet of Daylight and Experience (325) There will be no banner in the church, Gremla will be executed instead
Agree with Přemysl, but hand him over to Gremla Amulet of Daylight, Experience (325) and Denari (25) Gremla remains alive, the banner will end up in the church

The choice doesn't have any serious plot consequences, so do what you think is right, or focus on the reward.

How to save Gremla

If you want Gremla to survive the Blood Mass, please complete the following conditions:

  1. Find Přemysl.
  2. Convince him to return the banner or tell the victim the name of the thief.
  3. Return to the craftswoman before sunset.

In this case, the eerie painting will hang in the church during Mass. Residents will react to the image, but Gremla will remain alive.

What happens if you keep Přemysl's secret?

If you agree with the thief's arguments and decide to keep his identity a secret, you will receive as a thank you Daylight Amulet, which provides a 6% boost to human health. In this case, at the church ceremony, the vrahirs will hang the weaver's body in place of the missing cloth.

Is it possible to get the amulet and save Gremla?

To get maximum benefit, act smarter:

  1. Agree with Přemysl and receive an amulet from him.
  2. Return to the weaver and hand over the thief.

This will help you save the craftswoman's life and receive the Daylight Amulet and denarii for your help.

There's no need to aim for a green rarity item early in the game. Soon after the prologue, you'll be able to find more powerful artifacts, making the Daylight Amulet unnecessary. Points of interest, where powerful gear can be found early in the game, can be tracked by interactive map.
