Who is Dainsleif in Genshin Impact?

Dainsleif comes from the kingdom Caenri'ah, in which he served as captain of the palace guard. 500 years before the start of the story, a disaster occurred in the underground region that destroyed civilization, due to which some of the Kaenri people turned into Hilichurls, and the purebred population received curse of immortality. Finding himself among the damned, Dain ended up in the Sumeru desert, where he was found by Pari Zurvan. In the conversation, she described the man as having turned half into a monster, but without feeling like a monster. They traveled together for some time, after which the captain teamed up with the protagonist's twin.

For some time, Dainsleif accompanied a relative of the Traveler, with whom they explored Teyvat. However, their paths diverged and the twin, apparently, joined Order of the Abyss, and the damned continued the journey, since he still had unfinished business. After some time, the Traveler meets Dainsleif in the Mondstadt tavern, where for 500 mora and answers to three questions, the latter becomes the protagonist's companion and joins him in investigating matters related to the Order of the Abyss.

Names and titles

Dainsleif in Norse mythology is a legendary enchanted sword that could not return to its sheath until it had shed someone's blood. The name literally translates as “inheritance of Dain,” which refers to the dwarf who created the weapon.

Interestingly, the dwarf's name means "dead" in Old Norse, as if hinting at Dainsleif's fate.

Despite the fact that the character does not talk much about himself, the following titles can be learned from various quests:

  • Guardian of the branch.
  • Twilight Sword.
  • A bridge between past and future.

Dainsleif's name is spelled Dainsleif in English.

Character

From the very first meeting, the best word to describe Dayna is “mysterious.” The character is not particularly talkative, talks little about himself, and only when he begins to report something intriguing, as if on purpose, he changes the topic. Gradually opening up in tasks, Dainsleif appears to be a fairly calculating, purposeful person who is able to quickly make decisions, relying not so much on feelings as on reason and logic.

At the same time, Dine is not devoid of emotions and has his own opinion on various aspects of life. Although he initially shows composure towards his fellow knights encountered in the Rift, he later views Halfdan's self-sacrifice with a heavy heart. At the moment the knight's spirit appears, Dain is shocked by what is happening, and after that he cannot help but smile while talking with his former comrade.

Due to the curse, Dainsleif has memory problems, periodically saying that he is susceptible to erosion and does not remember certain things. However, this does not prevent him from experiencing distrust and hostility towards Archons, and also know about long-ago events that happened with Dvalin and the Wolf Lord Andrius.

Appearance

Daysleif in full growth

Dain appears as a tall, fair-haired man with bright blue eyes, the pupils of which have the characteristic four-pointed star shape of the Kaenri'ah inhabitants. He is dressed in dark blue clothes, and behind his back flutters a cloak with a high collar and space on the inside. On the character's chest there is a blue diamond-shaped glow, which can either be a part of the costume or be part of Dainsleif's body.

Among other things, what attracts attention about Dyna is the right half of his body, changed by the curse. One side of the face is covered with a kind of mask with blue splashes, which, if you look closely, go down and cover part of the neck, shoulder, arm and even part of the foot. This is most likely the result of a curse placed on the people of Kaenri'ah. This can be proven by the fact that the leader of Fatui, Harbinger Pierrot, whose eyes reveal him as a native of the destroyed region, also has the right side of his body covered, most likely also affected by the curse.

How old is he

You can guess how old Dainsleif is based on his appearance and information about his condition. At first glance, Dyne appears to be a man aged 25-30, but he is cursed with immortality. Since the game makes frequent reference to the Kaenri'ah disaster that occurred half a century ago, it follows that Dainsleif must be a little over 500 years.

How is it related to Lumin?

Some of Dainsleif's lines when the Void twin turns out to be Lumine create the impression of a deeper connection between the former companions. So, for example, a man, talking about the past, says that he remembers the girl’s favorite flowers, although much has been erased from his memory. However, regardless of the Traveler's gender, Dainsleif is in awe of the character joining the Order of the Abyss, fondly remembering their journey together. He seems to regret that their paths diverged and wants to save his twin.

Despite the fact that Dyne meets the main character much later than his relative, he is still friendly with the Traveler, although he acts a little indifferent. He does not force him to cooperate if their opinions do not agree, but calmly shares the information he has obtained and some stories from the past.

His opinion about other characters

One of the features of Dainsleif is that he voices most of the trailers for game characters, in which he often expresses his attitude towards them or some events:

  • In the video Albedo The damned one says that he cannot stand aside if the Prince of Mela, using the power from Kaenri'ah called Khemiya, slips up even once and brings destruction to Teyvat.
  • Dainsleif shares the feeling of loneliness Xiao, saying that he knows how much his heart hurts. But as if making a comparison with himself, he wonders whether the demon hunter will become a victim of his endless war, or will he meet someone who will understand him and light his path.
  • Man condemns actions Shogun Raiden, who led the country into decline and brought losses to the people, calling arrogance an innate trait of the Archons. He also notes that his words are not an exaggeration, but his experience.

Tasks with him

The reason why most players expect Dainsleif is due to the fact that he only appears in tasks of the Archons and brings with it new details about the game's lore. However, the man was first shown in a peace mission. "Branch Keeper: Dainsleif", where the Traveler met the mysterious cursed one.

Branch Keeper: Dinsleif

The first meeting with the Twilight Sword takes place in Mondstadt, where the protagonist encounters Dyne in the Angels' Share tavern and invites the latter to become a companion on his journey. The mysterious stranger agrees with surprising ease, demanding 500 mora and 3 answers to questions as payment, and also clarifying that he only takes on assignments related to the Order of the Abyss.

After which, together the heroes set off in search of traces of the Herald of the Abyss, which leads them to the Lair of Storm Terror. Here Dainsleif talks about the companion he once accompanied and explains that he has unfinished business. At the end, the company finds a dandelion, which causes the Traveler to see flashbacks about his relative.

We will meet again

The next encounter with the man occurs during the quest "We will meet again" In Liyue, where Paimon and the Traveler discover an upside-down statue of the Anemo Archon in a dungeon. Dyne continues to search for the Herald of the Abyss, and together they learn of the Order of the Abyss's massive operation, "Weaving Fate."

The traveler says that he remembers waking up during the fall of Kaenri'ah, to which Dainsleif notes that there are no coincidences and even their meeting in the tavern was not accidental. At the end of the quest, the first meeting takes place with the twin, who sides with the Order and calls Dain his enemy. A relative calls him the Twilight Sword and condemns him for failing to prevent the destruction of his homeland. Chasing the departing opponents, Dainsleif disappears into the portal, causing the heroes to separate again.

Requiem of Echoing Depths

Having arrived on assignment "Requiem of Echoing Depths" в Fault, The Traveler suddenly encounters Dainsleif, who has emerged from the portal. The Guardian of the Branch says that he was unable to catch up with the twin, and now offers to explore the ruins that ease the pain of his curse. Once again, the Order of the Abyss is involved in this, trying to return the hilichurls to human form, but only causing them pain. Having stopped the opponents, Dainsleif recognizes one of the knights as his comrade Halfdan, whose spirit says that Kaenri'ah continues to exist, because Dain is still alive.

Karibert

On a mission "Caribert" the heroes cross paths Kayei in Sumeru, whom Dain recognizes as a descendant of the founder of the Order of the Abyss, Clothar Alberich. He also recalls that his twin once mentioned the "Weaving of Fate" plan and suggests going to the place where they were.

Having experienced the memories of a relative from behind the arteries of the earth, the main character wakes up and shares them with Paimon and Dyne. The Caenriian speculates that the Void's operation has something to do with Clothar's son Caribert and is surprised that the founder was able to lift the curse of immortality. Dainsleif leaves again, saying he needs to think things over and fearing that a certain "Sinner" might have seen him through the Traveler's memories.

When will Dainsleif be released in Genshin Impact?

A fanatical vision of prayer

Dainsleif banner

Shirai_Kurokochan was the first to say that his banner will be in the second half of 7.X patches (Snowy), from March 10 to July 14, 2027. If this does not happen, then it will be released within 8.X (Khaenri'ah).

According to Qingfeng, Dainsleif will become Electro main DD in patches 7.6-7.6 and will be part of the same team as Dendro Noem from the Stimulation reaction. The third hero in the squad will probably be Pyro support Enjo (or an unknown white-haired man whose design resembles his).

In 2020, the hero was announced during a special stream. His playability is confirmed by the "Teyvat" teaser, which introduces all the regions, briefly outlines their plots, and showcases some of the heroes. Dyne appears in the very last chapter, dedicated to Khaenri'ah, where he outlines his plans and challenges the Traveler to battle him.

Weapon and God's Eye

Dainsleif's announcement not only reveals that the hero will become playable, but also gives some details regarding his constellation and element. Translated from Chinese, the name of its constellation is translated as "snake ring", or ouroboros. This symbol is often interpreted as infinity, eternity, or an indicator of the cyclical nature of life, which is reflected in the story of Dain. What kind of weapon the playable character Dainsleif will wield is currently unknown, but based on his "Twilight Sword" title, it is most logical to assume that he will use regular or two-handed sword.

Dainsleif's element does not belong to any of the already familiar elements of Teyvat. On the official hero announcement card there is an element Eyes of God written in a strange code of unsolved hieroglyphs, around which fans build a large number of theories. Although its very presence is already strange, since Dyne often emphasizes his disgust for the Archons and their power. So it is possible that his power has nothing to do with the mercy of the gods and comes either from the forbidden art of Khemia or from the influence of a curse.

Theories about the elements

The likely element of Dainsleif's God's Eye is Electro or Pyro. In the story, he uses blue flames, but insiders refer to him as an electric main-DD. Among the most popular theories are the following:

  • Element of a man - power of the Abyss/Void. This idea comes from the character's own words in the teaser, where he literally calls her "a force that comes from beyond the boundaries of the world." This is often called the ability of the Order of the Abyss, which leads to the conclusion that Dyne controls an element taken outside of Teyvat, possibly a type of Fel.
  • Eye of God Dainsleif - Shesha. A Reddit user who deciphered the symbols on the official character card believes that the hero's element may be Shesha, one of the forms of god in Hinduism, which closely resembles Faneta and is similar to ouroboros, associated with eternity. Hence the element can be called Chrono, which means the ability to control time, with the help of which, for example, Dyne accelerates himself to get into the portal behind the twin.
  • Dine uses the strength of the earth's arteries. This is most noticeable when he uses his ability: the glowing veins on his body resemble branches of arteries, and the blue-blue glow is similar to what appears when collecting artifacts or books for leveling up.
  • Dyne is able to use telekinesis or manipulate space.

Voice Actors

Dainsleif's official voices in different languages are:

  • English voice actor: Yuri Lowenthal.
  • The Japanese voice actor is Tsuda Kenjiro.
  • The Chinese voice actor is Sun Ye.
  • Korean voice actor: Choi Han.
