attack power in Genshin Impact - a key characteristic showing the amount of damage inflicted by normal blows and some abilities of characters (or enemies). When calculating damage, it is the main attribute that is used almost everywhere, including formulas for elemental reactions. All this determines its importance and relevance throughout the game - from the very beginning ranks to the late stage.
Having understood the principles of this stat, you can significantly increase the DPS of both an individual hero and the entire squad. In this guide, we will analyze in detail how attack power works, what it affects and how to increase its value using weapons, artifacts and other sources.
What gives attack power
Attack Power (abbreviated as ATK) allows you to inflict increased damage when using normal, charged or falling attacks, abilities, as well as when creating some reactions. In fact, the more attack, the stronger the character (or opponent) becomes. Despite base value when calculating damage, this stat includes many nuances and various mechanics. It is also important to consider that for some heroes it may be a priority, but for others it may not. It depends not only on the character himself, but also on his build.
What is attack power in Genshin Impact
Attack power is an attribute that directly or indirectly (depending on talent scales) affects base damage, as well as some spontaneous reactions и elemental damage. In short, attack is a measure of how much damage a character can deal in total. Damage to opponents can vary from the value of their defense or active shields.
How attack power works
Initially, all combat talents depend on ATK. If the damage scales from HP or defense, this is indicated in the description of the characteristics. General attack power formula is as follows:

- Base attack power: The sum of the character's base attack and the weapon's base attack (displayed in white in the stats menu).
- ATK% (percentage bonus): the sum of the attack power% bonuses received from all sources, including buffs from artifacts, weapon passives, talents, character ascension, etc.
- ATK (flat bonus): this is a flat attack value obtained from artifacts, skills, food.
If you look at the formula, the bonus, which is charged as a percentage, is multiplied by the basic attack. While the numerical bonus (flat attack) only adds up to the final value. Thus, the higher the main characteristics of the weapon, the more additional increase in attack the hero will receive.
It is also worth noting that the attack power from artifacts only affects character's base damage. For example, when a hero with 100 base ATK gets a 50% ATK boost, they end up with only 150 ATK. If you add another 50%, then the total will be 200. In this case, the formula looks like this: 100*(1 + 0.5 + 0.5) = 200.
As a rule, percentage bonuses increase the attack value in 2 times, as opposed to flat ones. Therefore, when selecting artifacts, it is recommended to give preference to those that have exactly ATK%.
Now let's look at the principle of the attack force on a specific example. Let's say at Xiangling Level 90 with fully upgraded spear "Catch", set "Gladiator’s Finale" + 18%, Pyro Resonance 25%, as well as additional and main characteristics in artifacts, ATK is calculated using the following formula:
ATK = [(225 + 510) * (1 + 0,798 + 0,25)] + 27 = 735 * 2,4 + 27 = 1791.
Who needs attack power in Genshin Impact
Almost all characters require some amount of attack power. Despite certain exceptions (Hu Tao, Yelan, Noelle (up to C6), Itto, Nilou), this attribute is needed by any primary or secondary damage dealer, as well as some supports whose support skills depend on ATK. The most dependent on this indicator are:
- Shenhe. The strength of her buffs is completely based on the maximum value of the attack power, so she is considered one of the most demanding characters for this characteristic.
- Jean. The heroine's elemental healing explosion scales with attack power, which means she also needs a high attribute score. In addition, she needs an attack to deal damage.
- Qiqi. The situation is similar to Genie - the amount of HP restored during the heal depends on the ATK.
Separately, we single out damage dealers whose gameplay is not directly based on attack power (and does not require its maximization for the sake of other stats), but without this attribute, they significantly sag in damage:
- Xiao.
- Yoimiya.
- Ganyu.
- Ayaka.
- Eula.
- Klee.
- Tartaglia.
- Ayato.
- Yae Miko.
- Diluc.
- Keqing.
- Razor.
- Yanfei.
- Ningguang.
How to increase attack power in Genshin Impact
There are many ways to increase the value of attack power: from leveling up characters to bonuses for equipment, food, and other heroes.
Artifacts for attack power
Artifacts containing an attack power attribute come in two variations:
- in the form of stats: main (clock, goblet, crown, feather) and additional (drop out randomly).
If we talk about the main stats, in the goblet, clock and crown, the attack is presented as a percentage and falls out randomly, in the pen - only attack in a flat value (in the form of a number). Additional stats are completely random. In this case, ATK may be in percentage, in the form of a number, or may be completely absent.
- In a passive effect: when used in two pieces or as a complete set under certain conditions.

Character buffs
Certain characters can increase their attack power with their skills:
- Bennett - elemental explosion increases attack if the hero standing in the area of its effect has less than 70% HP (on C1, the HP limit is removed).
- Hu Tao - In the state of the Butterfly Dance of the elemental skill, it increases its own attack power depending on the maximum HP. It is for this reason that Hu Tao does not need to collect ATK.
- Itto - during the explosion of the elements, increases its attack proportionally defense.
- Sara - When using an elemental skill or ult in the explosion area of the Raven Feather, the active character receives a bonus to attack power depending on Sarah's basic attack.
- Noelle - after activating the explosion of the elements, the attack power increases proportionally defense.
Hero Passive Talents
In addition to using active abilities, there are characters that give bonuses to attack and with the help of passives:
- Xiangling - the pepper that appears after the disappearance of Goba (elemental skill) increases the attack power of the one who picks it up by 10% for 10 seconds (talent Beware, It's Super Hot!).
- Aloy - when receiving the effect of the Spirals of the Icy Waste skill, increase their own attack power by 16%, and the attack of the rest of the team members by 8% (talent combat interception).
- Wanderer - When it reacts with Pyro during an elemental skill, increases its attack power by 30%. (talent Jade-Claimed Flower).
- Amber - charged shots at the weak points of enemies increase attack power by 15% for 10 seconds (talent Precise Shot).
Elemental Resonances
Pyro resonance increases the attack power of all heroes in the squad by 25 %. The effect is activated when there are 2 or more characters with a fire element.
Rise of Heroes
There are several characters in the game whose attack power increases with awakening. At the moment these include:
constellations of heroes
Repeated copies of heroes open access to constellations, which are also able to provide bonuses to attack power. Among them:
- Itto С4: After the end of the effect of the ult, the attack of all members of the squad increases by 20% for 10 seconds.

- Keqing С4: For 10 seconds after triggering a reaction with Electro, her ATK is increased by 25%.

I wonder, how much attack power% is needed to get 3000 power for Harlequin?
Am I correct in understanding that if artifacts specify that they provide an attack damage bonus, then this affects the character's attack stat, which is defined by the game at a certain level. However, if they specify that they affect a specific attack, for example, "increases the damage of normal and charged attacks," then that specific attack stat is increased by a certain percentage? So, which attack stat is more beneficial to increase with an artifact?
If I take White Brush with a buff to normal attack +48%, the talent Chevreuse with a buff to the attack of pyro Persians +30%, and Pyro Resonance +25% to attack.
Can I get +103% to Harlequin's normal attack?
Does Diluc's second constant increase his attack if he takes damage while shielded? Or only without a shield?
A little advice for newbies (and even old-timers will understand when they've been storming the same Momiji-Dyed Court for months, getting caps for HP or Defense) - if, when leveling artifacts, the secondary stats look something like this (I used a random feather from the set as a basis) = Defense 6,6, Attack Power 45, HP 208, Crit 32,5 - don't rush to throw such an item away, because even with such unnecessary stats (except for Crit) one Crit damage can already exceed itself on other pieces of the set combined.
Try to balance the stats, but don't throw away such pieces, especially when you really need the stat that dropped. You'll still end up getting a near-perfect piece of art later on, and this one will be very helpful at early ranks.
