Cryo Traveler in Genshin Impact: Best Build, Artifacts, and Teams

Cryo GG Guide: roles in Star Conductor and Dispersal squads, weapon selection, and skill usage.

Cryo Traveler holds a weapon

В Genshin Impact Cryo Traveler serves as a primary and secondary damage dealer. Most of his damage comes from his elemental skill, which continues to function after switching to another character, and his primary reactions are Star-based ones: with Electro, Anemo, and other Cryo companions.

Adding the Cryo Traveler to your team allows all other party members to convert regular Superconduct and Cryo Swirl into their Star counterparts. The Traveler can support damage dealers who use these mechanics or enable them in older teams.

How to get Cryo Element

To unlock the Traveler’s Cryo element:

  1. Unlock Snezhnaya by progressing through the first chapter of the Archon Quest Shots in the Land of Silence.
  2. When you arrive in Sretomorozsk, interact with a statue of the Seven Archons.
  3. Switch to the Traveler and select the "“Resonate with Cryo.”.

The Traveler will immediately switch to Cryo, with the talents for this element starting at level one.

Strengths and Weaknesses

A traveler holds a spear made of ice.

Cryo GG has a number of specific limitations, making him less effective than more specialized 5-star heroes like Odette. His advantage lies largely in his accessibility: he allows all players to play with Star Mechanics, regardless of whether they have the corresponding limitations on their account. His abilities are powerful enough to buff a modern damage dealer and comfortably clear enemies in the open world, but he won't be able to "revive" old companions.

Strengths

Weaknesses

Available absolutely free to all players as they progress through the story. All of its constellations can be obtained without any cost. Primogems for the study of Snezhnaya. Relatively low personal damage. The Traveler struggles as a dedicated main DPS without high-investment teammates.
Easily applies Cryo in an area, making the Traveler useful in teams that need an off-field Cryo sub-DPS—a role with few options—including Star reaction, Freeze, and Melt teams. High Energy Recharge requirements. The Elemental Burst has a high Energy cost, but most damage comes from the Elemental Skill, making it inefficient to prioritize Energy Recharge gear. As a result, the Burst may not be available every rotation.
Easy to build, with no need for complex rotations or difficult-to-obtain artifact stats to perform the main support role. As a sub-DPS, the Traveler works best with Anemo characters. Pairing them with Electro characters instead calls for a main DPS role, as an alternative to Sandrone. This setup works well with Yae Miko and Odette, provided you have the relevant constellations and signature weapons.
A universal F2P trigger for Star Reactions. Allows you to quickly solve Snezhnaya's puzzles without having any Star Blade heroes on your account and build teams based on the new mechanics.
Has a personal 5⭐ signature, which means it won't "take away" valuable one-handed swords from other companions.

The Best Cryo Traveler Builds in Genshin Impact

The Cryo Traveler’s build depends on their role in the team. Although they usually provide support or off-field Cryo application, ATK and CRIT stats are still valuable: their personal damage is significant enough to justify investing in it. Their abilities scale with ATK, so prioritize it and use substats to balance the rest of the build.

Recommended Stats

ATK is the Traveler’s main stat and increases their personal damage. CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG are also useful for off-field damage. When playing around Star Superconduct or Star Swirl, choose an ATK goblet rather than a Cryo DMG Bonus goblet. The Elemental Burst contributes to overall damage but is not central to the kit, so it is not worth using an Energy Recharge sands or weapon solely for it.

Weapon Tier List

Prioritize swords that provide CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, ATK, or Energy Recharge. Elemental DMG bonuses offer little benefit in Star reaction teams, so weapons with Cryo DMG bonuses can be disregarded.

Weapon The effect Recommendation
Blade of Illumination
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Base ATK:
46-608
CRIT Rate:
7.2%-33.1%
For each element the equipped Traveler resonates with, its critical damage is increased by 6%. In addition, the equipped Traveler, when hitting an enemy with his attack, increases his attack power by 24 % for 8 seconds and restores 5 energy. This effect can occur once every 5 seconds and is triggered even when the character is not on the battlefield. The Traveler's signature weapon, given out free in one copy as you progress through the story. The best weapon variant, which can be awakened to level five by upgrading the Statue of the Archons queens.
Source of flame
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Base ATK:
43-510
Elemental Mastery:
36-165
For 12 seconds after activating an elemental reaction, the attack power of the equipped character is increased by 16/20/24/28/32%. Activating Starlight reactions increases the damage of these reactions dealt by the equipped character for 12 seconds. 16/20/24/28/32%The effect is triggered even if the equipped character is not on the battlefield. The second-best option, obtainable through crafting. Works for both on-field and off-field roles. Its passive boosts Star reaction damage rather than elemental damage, providing a substantial increase.
Primordial Jade Cutter

Primordial Jade Cutter
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Base ATK:
44-542
CRIT Rate:
9.6%-44.1%

Increases HP by 20-40%. Grants an attack bonus equal to 1.2-2.4% of the wearer's maximum HP. Provides all the CRIT Rate you need and plenty of ATK, allowing you to focus on Energy Recharge and CRIT DMG substats. A strong choice for maximizing the Traveler’s personal damage in a main DPS role if you do not have their signature weapon.
Favonius Sword

Favonius Sword
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Base ATK:
41-454
Energy Recharge:
13.3%-61.3%

Critical hits have a 60-100% chance to create elemental particles that restore 6 energy. A situational 4-star option for a support role. Resolves the Energy issues of both the Traveler and the entire team, making their Elemental Bursts easier to use consistently.

Fog-Cutting Flare in Genshin Impact

Mistsplitter Reforged
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Base ATK:
44-674
CRIT DMG:
9.6%-44.1%

Increases elemental damage by 12-24%. Grants the Mist Cleaver power (up to 3 levels), which increases the elemental damage bonus of your element by 8/16/28/32/56%. Worth considering for its CRIT DMG and high Base ATK, but its passive offers no benefit even in a main DPS role, since the elemental DMG bonus does not increase the Traveler’s damage in this setup.

Suitable Artifacts

Choose the Cryo Traveler’s artifacts according to their role: sets can either increase personal off-field damage or provide valuable buffs to the entire team.

Name The effect Recommendation
Heart of the Furnace
⭐⭐⭐⭐
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
2-Piece Bonus: Increases attack power by 18%.
4-Piece Bonus: For 12 seconds, after the wearer activates Star Reactions or deals damage with them, their attack power is increased by 12%, and the damage of Star Flare reactions of all nearby heroes in the party is increased by 50%. These effects can occur even if the set owner is not on the battlefield. The bonuses of the artifact sets of the same name do not stack.
The best set for a sub-DPS Cryo Traveler in Star reaction teams.
Disenchantment in Deep Shadow
⭐⭐⭐⭐
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

2-Piece Bonus: + 18% to ATK.
4-Piece Bonus: The Superconductor's reaction damage is increased by 80%, while the Star Conductor's reaction damage is increased by 40%. When the wearer attacks an enemy with the Superconductor or Star Conductor status, the critical chance of that attack is increased by 16%.
An alternative choice if Traveler plays in Cryo and Electro teams as a main damage dealer.

Noblesse Oblige
⭐⭐⭐⭐
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

2-Piece Bonus: Increases elemental explosion damage by 20%.
4-Piece Bonus: Activating Elemental Burst increases the attack power of all squad members by 20% for 12 seconds. This effect does not stack.
If nobody else in the team uses Noblesse Oblige and you need more ATK, this set boosts both the Traveler’s Elemental Burst damage and their teammates. However, it provides considerably less support value than Heart of the Furnace.

Tenacity of the Millelith
⭐⭐⭐⭐
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

2-Piece Bonus: Increases HP by 20%.
4-Piece Bonus:
When an Elemental Skill hits an opponent, the ATK of all nearby party members increases by 20% and their Shield Strength increases by 30%. This lasts for 3s and can trigger 1 time every 0.5s, even when the equipped character is off-field.
An alternative option for buffing a squad.

Teams

The best commands for Cryo Traveler are via Star reactionsHowever, its role depends heavily on specific elements:

  • In Starry conductor He primarily serves as the primary damage dealer and requires the support of strong allies. Adding him specifically to Sandrona, Risley, or Saino only makes sense if Odette is unavailable.
  • In detachments through Zvezdnoe diffusion He acts more as an applicator and carrier of the Heart of the Horn, since in such groups the main DD can only be of the wind element.

Recommended Characters

Best partners: Cryo, Anemo, and Electro elementalists. Strongest synergies are with Star Wedge heroes and companions buffed through The Witch's Prophecy.

SpringAnemoSwordDamage dealt by Star Scatter. Signature supports are Odette and Vodyanitsa, but if either of them is unavailable, Cryo GG can be added instead.

Main DPS and Sub-DPS

Due to the lack of Snezhnaya's new mechanics, these characters don't synergize well with the main character, but they can be used in situations where damage isn't as important as utilizing the new mechanics themselves. For example, these could be open-world puzzles or boss fights that require a Star Strike to paralyze or transition to the next phase.

Stats

The main character's progression has a unique mechanic: regardless of the chosen elemental form, the base health, defense, and bonus stats remain unchanged. The key stat, which increases with each ascension stage, is attack power (%).

This percentage increase is calculated from the base attack value and is added to additional stats from weapons and artifacts. If you pass Skirk's assignment, receive a permanent bonus to almost all stats depending on how many elements (Archon statues) you resonated with.

Leveling

Leveling up requires both standard Teyvat resources and materials exclusive to the Traveler. The talents for each new element start at level 1; upgrading the Cryo talents requires Local Specialties and boss materials from Snezhnaya.

Ascension

Character level is shared across all elements, so leveling up your character once is sufficient. If you haven't already, look for the following resources:

Skills

The Cryo Traveler’s role depends on the team. In Star Superconduct teams, they act as an on-field damage dealer. In Swirl teams or teams that do not use Radiance reactions, they provide elemental application. Their passives convert ATK into Elemental Mastery, grant a weapon infusion, and enhance Charged Attacks.

Special abilities (active skills)

In Star Superconduct teams, the Traveler relies on Normal Attacks. Interactions with their Elemental Skill build Frost Glow stacks, increasing the number of hits dealt by their Elemental Burst. As a sub-DPS, they use their Skill to deal off-field damage to nearby enemies. All of their active abilities focus on dealing damage.

Alien Cold Glare (Normal Attacks)

Passive improves charged attack

Normal attack: Up to five quick hits.

Charged Attack: Spends a certain amount of stamina for two quick swings of the sword.

Plunging Attack: Swiftly falls to the ground, attacking all enemies on the way. Upon landing, deals area damage.

After gaining three stacks, hold the Normal Attack button to deal Starblaze damage, provided Radiance is active for the team and Star Swirl or Star Superconduct has been triggered.

Ice Mist Sword (Elemental Skill)

  • Source of damage: ATK
  • Cooldown: 15 seconds
  • Duration: 12 seconds

Swings his weapon forward and thrusts forward, releasing a freezing mist that deals Cryo damage to enemies in front of him and creates a Freezing Star nearby.

Icy Star: Follows your active character and periodically fires ice crystals at nearby enemies, dealing Cryo damage.

Radiance - Star Guide: The Frost Star no longer spawns ice crystals periodically. Instead, it spawns a single ice crystal, performing a combo attack every 0,2 seconds when the Traveler's normal attack, charged attack, or falling attack hits an enemy.

  • When an ice crystal hits an enemy, the traveler gains 1 level of Frost Glow. This effect can stack up to 8 times.
  • Outside of combat, Frost Glow is removed after 30 seconds.

When the Starlight Prism from the Star Guide appears on the field, the Hero's skill no longer deals damage from the pocket. Instead, the additional status only occurs when the Traveler attacks targets. Also, in this case, the E-stat resets when switching heroes, like standard damage dealers with a stance.

Frost Lance (Elemental Burst)

Uses the power of Cryo to create an icy spear and hurl it at opponents, dealing multiple instances of Cryo DMG.

On activation, the Traveler consumes all Frost Glow stacks to increase the damage of this Elemental Burst. Consuming 8 stacks also increases the number of damage instances dealt by the spears.

Shine - Starry Shine: This elemental blast now deals Cryo damage, which is counted as damage from the corresponding Starblaze reactions.

Passive Skills

The passive talents increase the Traveler’s personal damage, convert ATK into Elemental Mastery, and grant their sword a Cryo infusion.

Radiance - Star Guide: While Frost Star is active, the damage of normal attacks, charged attacks, and falling attacks becomes Cryo damage, which cannot be negated by other infusions. Additionally, damage dealt is increased by 80% of attack power.

The Traveler's Elemental Mastery is increased by 8% of their Attack Power, up to a maximum of 160 Elemental Mastery.

You draw new strength from your past travels. For each element type you resonate with, you gain additional buffs.

When nearby party members deal Star Superconduct or Star Swirl reaction damage, the Traveler gains 1 Frosted Blade stack. One stack can be gained this way every 2s, up to a maximum of 3. At 3 stacks, a Charged Attack consumes all stacks and becomes a special Charged Attack: Freezing Ice.

Charged Attack: Freezing Ice: Cryo damage dealt is increased by 140% of attack power, and the traveler also gains 2 levels of Frost Glow.

Charged attack: Freezing Ice can only be cast once every 15 seconds. Additionally, the damage bonus from the Ever-Piercing Frost Ascension talent does not apply to Charged Strike: Freezing Ice.

Shine - Starry Shine: Charged Attack: Freezing Ice now deals Cryo damage, which is considered damage from the corresponding Starblaze reactions.

While the Traveler is in the Beacon's Reach, or for 8 seconds after nearby party members activate Star Scattering, he enters the Radiance - Star Guide or Radiance - Star Scattering state, respectively.

When party members trigger Superconduct or Cryo Swirl, they trigger Star Superconduct or Star Swirl instead. The base damage of these reactions increases by 0,35% for every 100 ATK the Traveler has, up to a maximum increase of 7%.

Talent Leveling Order

The priority of ability development depends on the chosen role in the squad:

  1. Elemental skill is the basis of damage, it is leveled first and reaches level 8-9.
  2. Elemental Burst is a secondary source of damage, you can stop at level 8.
  3. Normal/Charged Attacks – If you're using Cryo GG as your primary damage dealer, level them up to level 9-10. As a sub-damage dealer, keep them at level 1.

Constellations

All Cryo Traveler constellations are obtained by leveling up the Statue of The Seven. In Version 7.0, you can unlock up to C2.

Name Effects

1. Severe icing

When the Traveler deals Starblaze reaction damage, they restore 5 Energy. This effect can trigger once every 0,5s.
2. The roar of the icefall

After the Ice Crystal from the elemental skill Frozen Mist Sword hits an enemy, the active character's Elemental Mastery is increased by 60 for 5 seconds.

If a character affected by this effect triggers a Starblaze reaction or deals damage with one, the Elemental Mastery increase becomes 120 for the remaining duration.

3. Ice Shard Increases Frost Lance skill level by 3.
Max. level: 15
4. Non-melting ice The duration of the Icy Star created by the elemental skill Frostmist Sword is increased by 25%.
5. Freezing Fog Increases the skill level of Ice Fog Sword by 3.
Max. level: 15
6. The sparkle of harsh ice For each level of Frost Glow consumed when activating Frost Lance's elemental burst, the damage of other party members' Star Flare reactions is increased by 5% for 15 seconds. The maximum increase this can provide is 40%.

The Cryo Traveler’s best constellations are C2, C5, and C6

  • The second constellation increases the team’s Elemental Mastery after the Traveler uses their Elemental Skill, improving damage. It is most effective in Starblaze teams because the buff is larger and both Star Swirl and Star Superconduct scale with this stat.
  • The fifth constellation raises the level of the Traveler’s main damage-dealing skill in Star reaction teams. It is also useful when the Traveler provides Cryo application in regular teams, since it increases the periodic damage from their Elemental Skill.
  • The sixth constellation increases the damage of Star Reactions after using the ult, which will be well revealed only within the respective teams. As a standard sub-damage dealer, he's of no value.

How to play as Cryo Traveler

The Cryo Traveler’s gameplay revolves around using their Elemental Skill for off-field damage, building Frost Glow stacks, and triggering reactions. The rotation depends on their role:

  • How to sub-dd, the main character activates the E-class, resets the ult as it charges and enters the field only to refresh the abilities.
  • Being nucleus teams, he, having received the infusion, remains to fight with his hands.

Character Summary

Investing in Cryo Traveler is primarily needed by players wanting to try out Star Dispersion, as well as those who don't have Sandrone or Odette but want to play with Snow's new mechanics with a current main damage dealer or activate the abilities of buffed heroes. For a 7.0 hero, it's an excellent budget-friendly damage dealer option from Star Conductor.

In the future, he may lose out to newer heroes with unique mechanics, but at the launch of the region, he is an excellent option for both new and experienced players.

If the squad is scattered with Mizuki, GG, Odetta, and S6 Sukharosa, then should GG be given the Shadow and Odetta the Horn? Or what?

Vidook

Answer  Aurora

Frozen in Shadows is a useless set in this squad, as the game is about dispel, not conduit. In this case, it's better to give the main character either Millelith or Ceremony (for the ATK buff for himself and Odette, but the buff is useless for Mizuki). Crimson Proof, Gilded Dreams, and Instructor don't work, as Eater/Lumine can't close reactions (i.e., Cryo on Anemo, since Anemo status can't affect enemies). Although about half of the main character's Cryo damage comes from their ultimate, taking Emblem of Sundered Fate is a very questionable decision.

Could you please tell me which artifact sets should I use? Mizuki, GG, Sukharoz, Escoffier/Diona/Chicha (I have them all, I'm running with Escoffier for now, but maybe Diona or Chicha are better?) Odette won't be included.

The team consists of:
gg (Cryo, frozen in the shadows)
chip (with the golden troupe)
Odette (with a horn)
lehi (with ceremony)
The pack simply doesn't do any damage. Cryo-GG deals 20-30k (reaction) cryo damage after all the buffs, and all skills go into cooldown. And the basic attack with Cryo Infusion deals 5k damage, even though it has 2400 attack and 80/210 crits. I don't understand what the problem is? Even 4* characters hit harder with this build. Is this how it's supposed to be, or is this some kind of bug?

I don't know what's wrong with you, maybe talent levels? My main character hits for 10 with a single attack and 180 with his ult. Level 5 base attack, level 8 ult, and that's not all the critical hits. 69/220. More is possible if you try.

I've looked at a lot of guides and realized that I had the wrong rotation, but even so, 180K with the ult is not enough for me (maybe I'm getting too greedy?!), we'll see what happens... but I think I'll rebuild the pack for dispersal, maybe it will be better
