In Genshin impact, the Lord of the Hidden Depths: Whisperer of Nightmares World Boss is a sinister creature that wanders in Nod-Krai. Its appearance is merely an illusion, created to exist within Teyvat and composed of pure Abyssal energy. Defeating it will yield materials for character development.
Possessing control over a flock of similar monsters, the creature summons them onto the field and shields itself from damage. To remove the protective barrier, you'll need to understand its mechanics and select the appropriate team, which this guide will help you with.
How to get to the Lord of the Hidden Depths: Whisperer of Nightmares
Lord of the Hidden Depths: Whisperer of Nightmares is located on the territory of Ashveil Peak in Nod-Krai. The arena is located on the northwestern edge of the island, where a special HP reduction mechanic is in effect. To save time on battles and conserve health, bring two Lunar heroes and someone with the ability to quickly navigate the world.
Climb the cliff and activate the fast travel point if it isn't already unlocked. Then jump off the cliff and fly to the battlefield with the Abyssal creature.
Which team is good for this battle

The monster has no initial resistance to any elements, but after summoning smaller minions, it deploys a shield that completely protects it from incoming damage. The barrier will be removed if you deal with the summoned creatures or attack with reactions, of which Lunar ones work best. After the shield is broken, the creature will lose some health and its resistances to all attacks will drop to -60%.
Choosing Characters
For the battle, the optimal choice is a main DD from Nod-Krai, but if you have Robot Ineffa, any team with a Hydro or Electro hyper-carry can use Lunar-Charged. Harbinger Columbina will allow a Dendro, Geo or Electro team to play via Lunar-Bloom, Crystallize or Charged.
Among the support heroes, it's best to pay attention to companions with pulling, since there will be five opponents on the field, including summons, and most of them will not stand still.
Main damage dealer
A list of heroes capable of being the core of the group and dealing a lot of damage to the beast. Try to choose a main damage dealer from Nod-Krai, or, if you have Ineffa, Electro or Hydro companions. Avoid single-target heroes. Mechanically, the boss works as a group of targets, and it's better if reaction damage can simultaneously affect not only its minions but also its shield.
Sub dps
Secondary attacking characters that complement the team's core. Typically, these are the companions of either the same element as the hyper-carry or Hydro-elemental characters, responsible for their elemental status. In some cases, an Anemo companion wearing the Viridescent Venerer set and a useful weapon is acceptable.
Supports
Buffers, shielders and healers that fit into the team's concept.
Top Teams
Team options that will help you beat the boss the fastest:
| Character 1 | Character 2 | Character 3 | Character 4 | Features |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Ineffa | Columbina | Jahoda Sucrose | Premium Moonsign team. The electro heroes' attack range allows them to hit multiple targets at once, significantly reducing the time it takes to destroy additional enemies. Aino, a mechanic with the sixth constellation, can be considered for the third slot. | |
Fischl Ororon | Yelan | Jahoda Sucrose | Another effective option with Kyryll as a core. If you play carefully, you can use Sucrose instead of healer Jahoda, which blocks Fischl's Hexenzirkel Resonance. The Lightkeeper will receive a bonus to his Elemental mastery, which will positively impact his overall damage. | |
Neuvillette | Ineffa | Fischl Ororon | Sucrose Kazuha | Lunar-Charged group for a Hydro Main-DD. The Iudex can be swapped for harbinger Tartaglia и head of the Yashiro commission. The Mondstadt girls cover the team's needs for pocket damage and resistance reduction, and Ineffa turns Charged into its lunar variant. |
Nefer | Lauma | Columbina | Baizhu Kirara | A very expensive Lunar-Bloom team that covers all the Storyteller's needs. The Soubrette's timings synergize perfectly with the Dendro heroines' abilities, but for a comfortable gameplay, it's advisable to provide them with a reliable shielder or healer. |
Nefer | Nahida | Baizhu Kirara | A less effective, but still good group of the same concept. Without Lauma, the Curatorium of Secrets boss loses a significant percentage of damage, which can be compensated for by Dendro Archon's constellations. If you lack Hydro status, it's better to add a Hydro support in the last slot. | |
Columbina | Ineffa | Fischl Ororon | Jahoda | The Kuutar can be considered a primary hero, as she has access to the same units as the Nod-Krai main damage dealer. Paired with Maid Ineffa, will constantly deal damage with Storm Clouds. |
Columbina | Lauma Nahida | Jahoda Lan Yan | LB Team for the Soubrette as the character on the field. If you chose Lauma instead of Nahida as your second companion, for the greatest boost to Lunar Resonance, use a shielder that does not belong to the Thieves' Region for the second slot to provide interrupt resistance. | |
Zibai | Albedo Chiori | Columbina Illuga | Zhongli Gorou (C6) | Lunar-Crystallize is especially effective against the Lord of the Hidden Depths: Whisperer of Nightmares if you can force more than one summoned monster into range of the Totems. This White Horse team is more focused on area-of-effect damage than its strongest team with the Harbinger and Lightkeeper as supports. |
Columbina | Albedo Chiori | Yun Jin (C6) Illuga | ZhongliGorou (C6) | A group using Lunar-Crystallize for the Moon Goddess. If you have both Geo sub-DDs from the second slot, you can move one of them to the third position. However, you'll need an additional source of Hydro status to consistently activate the reaction. |
Budget teams
Teams with heroes obtained for completing the story, the Spiral Abyss and Witch's Homework. Ideally, to defeat the Lord of the Hidden Depths: Whisperer of Nightmares, you should have at least Maiden Kuutar on your account, as she grants access to all Lunar reactions.
However, even with the available characters, it's possible to create working combinations capable of killing the monster with damage from normal reactions. The mob's shield only breaks from elemental attacks, so it's best to avoid using physical variations.
| Character 1 | Character 2 | Character 3 | Character 4 | Features |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Lisa Razor | Traveler (Dendro) Collei | Barbara Noelle | Hyperbloom team with an Electro main damage dealer in the lead role. The area of effect and targeted attack of activated buds will allow for effective dealing with monsters. | |
Barbara | Traveler (Dendro) | Xiangling | Collei | A team with the Pastor as the Bloom Driver has high survivability. In this case, Xiangling detonates the Dendro Core and applies Pyro, thus allowing the passive Burning to take effect. |
Lisa | Fischl Sucrose | Barbara Noelle | Charged team. Thanks to the area of effect of Wunderkind Aino's Ultimate, the Hydro status will be able to affect most enemies. If you're using the Alchemist's Apprentice instead of the Princess of Condemnation, try to time your Ultimate so that she absorbs the Electro and deals damage. When swirling Hydro, the enemies only get the Wet status, which is already abundant with the Nod-Krai mechanic. |
How to defeat the Faceless, Boundless Overlord in Genshin Impact

With the right team, the boss is quickly destroyed, but the fight will be easier if you understand its defense mechanics. In more difficult content like Twisted Abyss, Dark onslaught or Imaginarium Theater, the enemy will most likely go into an invulnerable form at the very beginning of the battle.
Attack the summoned monsters and the main enemy at the same time
The Whisperer's of Nightmares shield depletes both from direct attacks and from killing the minions it creates. Use area-of-effect attacks to hit multiple targets at once and speed up the battle. Suitable for units with high area-of-effect damage.
Focus on the Faceless, Boundless Overlord
Summoned minions have quite a lot of health and are located at a significant distance from each other. If you're unsure of how to destroy them all within 15 seconds, or if you're using a unit with a strong single-target attack, it's best to immediately head to the main enemy and attack them. This significantly increases the chances of removing the barrier and gaining an additional advantage.
Use Lunar or normal reactions
Physical attacks or single element strikes have much less impact on barrier penetration than elemental combos. Use a combination of different elements with frequent status effects to speed up the fight.
Equip your support heroes with the Instructor set
In teams that rely on reactions, additional Elemental Mastery for everyone will significantly increase the group's damage output. However, keep in mind that the wearer has to consistently trigger the set bonus. When playing with two Nod-Krai characters, you can pay attention to the Serenade set.
A strong shield is better than healing
The Abyssal Creature is fast and aggressive. It has multiple area-of-effect attacks, as well as a nasty and difficult-to-parry attack when you miss the barrier timings. To deal more damage to its health, it's best to team up with a shielder. Robot Ineffa or Master Lan Yan perfectly fit a team with an Electro companion, who will give a status for absorption.
Attacks and abilities of the Faceless, Boundless Overlord
To kill the Lord of the Hidden Depths: Whisperer of Nightmares without losing any team members, you need to carefully study its mechanics.
All of the boss's attacks deal Electro damage and inflict the corresponding status on the hero.
Tail Strike
Spins around itself and hits with its limbs in a specific area.
Blade Flurry
Takes an attacking stance and launches a flurry of attacks in front of it with it tendrils.

Triple Rumble

Three consecutive attacks, separated by a short interval. First, the Faceless Overlord slams the ground, creating a trail of energy. Then, it delivers a single slash, launching a blade forward. The third action sends three blades of Abyssal energy at the hero.
Deepdark Strike
Tears the air above itself and travels through it to the active character, striking from above within a certain radius. The attack location is outlined in purple. Move out of its range to avoid damage.
Quiet cut
Creates a rift and rushes into it, immediately materializing in front of the active hero. Immediately deals a single slashing attack.
Mantle of the Abyss

The Whisperer of Nightmares deploys a shield that blocks all incoming damage from heroes. Break it as quickly as possible to reduce the mob's resistances and deal one strong hit to HP. After losing this shield, the Overlord needs about 15 seconds to recover.
Call of the Commander
With a drawn-out roar, the boss rips through space and teleports to another part of the arena. There, it summons four monsters with individual health bars onto the field. They are connected to their master by an energy thread that breaks upon death, but act independently.
While the ability is active, the monster stands still and accumulates Abyssal energy. You have approximately 20 seconds to remove its shield by destroying it on the enemy or killing the monster's minions.
Group attack

Enemies mobilized at the leader's command gather dark energy and attack directly in front of them, releasing a piercing laser beam. Due to their positioning, the attack patterns resemble a web, so it's best to simply run away from it.
Payback for a mistake

If the barrier isn't fully removed within the allotted 20 seconds, the Faceless, Boundless Overlord will absorb his servants and deal a single blow to the active character, accompanied by a space-breaking animation. The attack cannot be outrun, but can be dodged with a super ability or shielded.
Achievements
At the moment of the 6.3 update, there is only one achievement for fighting this monster.
'We Call This Efficiency'
Requirement: Destroy the shield without defeating any of Fishers of Hidden Depths summoned by the Lord of the Hidden Depths: Whisperer of Nightmares.
To obtain this trophy, you'll need teams using Lunar Reactions or a good damage dealer capable of dealing high single-target damage. Try to stay close to the boss and deal damage directly, avoiding homing abilities. Area-of-effect attacks won't hurt your chances of obtaining this trophy, as the servants of the Faceless, Boundless Overlord have quite a lot of health.

In my case, it's Ningguang - lunar crystallization is hyped
I decided to try Lunar Crystallization for the achievement. I took Itto-Shilonen-Aino-Kolombina. I could have taken him down in 20-25 seconds, but I had to wait for the mobs to spawn. Lunar Crystallization is a banzai.
